Football Recruiting Top 50 prospect set to visit Tuscaloosa

TE Dagon Mitchell is set to visit Alabama this weekend. Mitchell is originally from the state before he moved to Texas and now California.

Mitchell has size and athleticism that will at times shock you but he fits the mode of a blocker and pass catcher.

If Alabama were to add Mitchell to the class it would be a huge get on the offensive end. At this point the 2025 class is showing a great deal of promise.

I say it'll be Malik Benson. James thinks Alabama's receivers will fall short of the mark for a second straight year. I'm obviously right, but what do y'all think?

SEC day four in NCAA

We move to day four.

1. South Carolina, Tennessee and Alabama are through to the Super Regionals, where all three Will be or might be underdogs.

2. In the most surprising result, Vandy will remain home, as the season is over. As I forecast, Auburn had the greatest uphill climb and did not make it.

3. LSU has to win one of two to make the field.

4. Arkansas is the most surprising team in that they were humiliated by TCU and now must beat the Frogs twice to advance.

5. aTm, Florida and Kentucky must win one today to advance. aTm has the biggest uphill climb; however, they will be pitching their midweek starter against Stanford’s bullpen. By the same token Florida and Kentucky will be in the same position as Stanford.

My prediction is that Kentucky is a tossup, Florida should have the hitting to get by, aTm has about a 25% chance, LSU should be through to the Super Regionals and Arkansas has a long way to go to win a doubleheader. I think the SEC ends up with Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, LSU, Florida and Kentucky in the Super Regionals. Of the last 21 teams playing, 8 are from the SEC, and SEC 7,8,9,&10, are still playing. I guess everyone is shocked that Vandy is out, but their hitting did not show up for the weekend. Everyone knew that Penn had three good starters and could advance to the championship game; however, if USM has any kind of starter today, they should advance.

Football Recruiting Latest: Four-star WR Perry Thompson close to shutting recruitment down?

One of the nations elite and longest tenured recruits in the the 2024 class.

Thompson has been a high priority for Alabama along with several SEC programs, more specifically Auburn.

Talking with a source very close to Thompson, this weekend went a long way for the Rivals100 prospect.

One main point heading into this weekend was being on the “same page” about his value and how Alabama viewed him in the class. A big message this weekend was that the Tide want the “best 2024 players in the state by all means” they want Thompson.

Apparently this weekend made Thompson consider shutting things down completely, however he will still take his visit to Auburn in the coming weeks to see how they live up to what Alabama laid out this weekend.

This one isn’t over yet but the Crimson Tide made a huge impression this weekend.

More to come.

Football Recruiting Latest on Caleb Odom following OV

After speaking with several sources it’s apparent that Alabama made quite the impression on Odom.

From the sounds of it Alabama is looking for more versatility out of the TE position moving forward under OC Tommy Rees as they make it a point of emphasis to add players with wideout skillsets but TE bodies.

Odom came on in a major way after last season and has seen his recruitment with the Crimson Tide heat up.

Heading into the visit Ole Miss and Miami were seen as major contenders and should still be viewed that way but after building a relationship with Coach Cox and his visit this weekend. Alabama can be looked at as the potential team to beat.

We will give it a few days to let the “visit high” wear off, but as things stand right now we will be keeping close tabs on Odom.

Alabama basketball's Kai Spears sues New York Times after story links him to deadly shooting

Alabama men’s basketball player Kai Spears sued the New York Times this week for defamation, saying the newspaper accused him of being at the scene of a deadly shooting that took place on the Tuscaloosa Strip.

Spears told the Washington Post that he was “at his dorm with friends” on 23-year-old Jamea Harris was killed.

“I was not anywhere near the scene or vicinity at the time that took place,” Spears told the Washington Post. “I don’t think it is a mistaken identity. I just think they didn’t do their due diligence.”

The Times published a story stating Spears was in Brandon Miller’s car on the Tuscaloosa Strip on Jan. 15. Spears is seeking $75,000, not counting court costs or interest.

During a preliminary hearing for former Alabama basketball player Darius Miles and Michael Davis in February, a Tuscaloosa Police investigator said Miles, Davis and Miller were at the scene of the fatal shooting and the gun was allegedly brought to Miles in Miller’s car. Miles, who was dismissed by the university, and Davis are facing capital murder charges while Miller wasn’t charged with a crime.

According to the Washington Post, Spears had two friends visiting and met up with Miller Houndstooth on the Strip then went to go eat at Moe’s Original BBQ at 12:30 a.m. The group had a FaceTime call with Jaden Bradley who asked if they wanted to go out but Spears and his friends declined and went back to Spears’ dorm. According to the lawsuit, Spears and his friends left at 1:40 a.m. The shooting happened on Grace Street at 1.45 a.m. About three minutes later, Spears called Miller and Bradley vis FaceTime and was told that gunshots were fired into Miller’s car.

According to the lawsuit, Spears “has experienced severe emotional distress as his life has been disrupted by the untrue statements linking him to a criminal event.”

“Everything kind of blew up,” Spears told the Washington Post. “I had multiple threats from Twitter and Instagram, people telling me to kill myself, people telling me I’m a murderer, we’re a team full of murderers. And they’re just kind of putting this false narrative out. … I mean, I did nothing wrong.”
