He just needs to win

Nick was hard on reporters also. But, when you are the goat you can get away with it. It the middle of fall practice and most coaches don’t have a lot of time for reporters. Sanders just needs to win.

Football 🏈 Alabama's RT battle wide open as coaches search for consistency

When asked about the battle between Wilkin Formby and Elijah Pritchett today, Alabama OL coach Chis Kapilovic said: “I see this competition going for a while.”

Here's what he said about what he's looking for in Alabama's next RT

Football 🏈 Preseason nuggets (practice No. 11)

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama is past the halfway point of its preseason workouts. After a day off Monday, the Crimson Tide returned to the practice field Tuesday for its 11th of 20 preseason practices leading up to game week for the season opener against Western Kentucky on Aug. 31. Players were dressed in full pads under sunny 84-degree weather.

— A few players seem to be banged up after the scrimmage. Running back Richard Young, inside linebacker Jihaad Campbell and offensive lineman Olaus Alinen were all riding the stationary bikes during the viewing period.

— Safety DeVonta Smith and running back Daniel Hill were not spotted during the workout. Hill was seen wearing a sling and walking the stadium steps during Sunday’s open practice inside Bryant-Denny Stadium.

— After not participating in the open scrimmage, both Tyler Booker and Jaeden Roberts were back at their usual first-team guard roles during the viewing period.

— Alabama’s first-unit offensive line continues to feature Kadyn Proctor, Booker, Parker Brailsford, Roberts and Wilkin Formby from left to right. The second unit was made up of Miles McVay, Geno VanDeMark, Joseph Ionata, Roq Montgomery and Elijah Pritchett.

— In addition to Young, running backs Jam Miller and Kevin Riley were also wearing black jerseys during the viewing period. Miller and Riley were participating in individual drills.

— Cornerback Zabien Brown still has a club on his left hand but doesn’t appear to be hampered by it.

— When I was watching Alabama’s cornerbacks, they were working on backpedaling drills in pairs. Zabien Brown led the cornerbacks working closer to the sideline and was followed by DaShawn Jones and Jaylen Mbakwe. Zavier Mincey led the group working on the field side and was followed by Domani Jackson and Jahlil Hurley.

— I wouldn’t necessarily pay too much attention to the order of the groups. However, the groupings could be of interest. I wouldn’t be surprised if Brown, Jones and Mbakwe are getting reps as the boundary corners while Jackson, Mincey and Hurley are getting reps at the field role.

— Deontae Lawson led the inside linebackers during a pursuit drill. With Campbell out, he was followed by Justin Jefferson, Q.B. Reese, Sterling Dixon, Justin Okoronkwo, Cayden Jones and Jeremiah Alexander.

— Alabama’s defensive line was working in a drill toward the end of practice. When I was watching, it looked to feature five defenders on the line with LT Overton, Tim Smith, Tim Keenan III, Jah-Marien Latham and Que Robinson from left to right. Robinson was playing a little bit off the line as a stand-up rusher.

— The defensive line also did one-on-one wrap-up drills. One highlight was Tim Keenan forcing a fumble going against Tim Smith. The DL seemed to enjoy the drill and Freddie Roach was his usual animated self coaching them through it.

Carroll was one of the 10 highest risers among all prospects jumping 155 spots to No. 30 overall in 2025. Carroll had an outstanding summer following his commitment to Alabama on June 4. He shined at Rivals Five-Star, showing off his raw blocking power and athleticism against some of the nation’s best edge rushers including the No. 1 player in 2026 Jakeem Stewart. After wowing scouts against top opposition this summer, Carroll will do the same in the fall when he kicks off his senior season at IMG Academy. Carroll transferred to IMG from Central Bucks East High School in Pennsylvania this summer.

Alabama’s second biggest riser in the latest rankings update is also the Crimson Tide’s highest-ranked recruit. Russell made another big jump after having the most impressive offseason among the elite Class of 2025 QBs. Russell took home MVP honors at Elite 11 and also showed out at Rivals Five-Star. Russell heads into his senior season at Duncanville High School in Texas with a chance to rise even higher before he joins the Crimson Tide’s talented QB room.

Lloyd is the latest Crimson Tide commit to jump into the Rivals250. Previously unranked, Lloyd has blossomed into a talented offensive tackle prospect out of Carmel High School in California. He’s an elite athlete who also plays baseball and basketball at Carmel and gives Alabama a unique future option at the tackle position with his ability to get to the second level. Lloyd has a great relationship with Alabama offensive line coach Chris Kaplilovic, who has landed five four-star OL commits including three Rivals250 talents — Lloyd, Carroll and Micah DeBose.

Despite a quiet summer where he only took official visits to Alabama and Tennessee, Sanders jumped up nine spots ahead of his senior season at California Powerhouse Mater Dei. Alabama has two commits from the elite prep school in Sanders and fellow Rivals250 prospect, Chuck McDonald III. As a junior, Sanders stuffed the stat sheet with 52 tackles, 3.5 and three forced fumbles. He and McDonald will make up another stalwart Monarchs defense before continuing the Mater Dei-Alabama pipeline when they arrive in Tuscaloosa.

Another California product out of Mission Viejo High School, Lee rose three spots into the top 30 and is Alabama’s highest-ranked defensive commit. Heading into his senior season, Lee has five-star potential given his athletic traits and high school production so far. Standing 6-foot-3, 181 pounds, Lee is an extremely lengthy corner who also plays with a ton of speed and rarely gets beat by speedy receivers when playing press coverage.
