2 things I learned about our basketball team today

We seem to be getting out of control again-players driving the lane with few options, and result is bad pass or shot. Also, three point obsessed. Know this is his style but has to be tempered a bit. Take good shots!

OU has a lot of quickness, and they defended Bama’s slashes to the hoop pretty well.
Reese was 3-10 on 3’s - not totally terrible, but it looks to me that he is too often a liability on offense.

The key was offensive rebounding, it killed us in this game and the hustle of Oklahoma, they played harder than us. Shooting comes and goes, like Namron711 said above you cant have you center outside that much. We will learn from this, I think they got a little to confident.

Disagree .. reese did a nice job on shot fakes at the 3 point line and drove past his defender for a few easy left handed layups.

10 three point attempts is excessive ..not sure what Petty had all game.

The issue was Oklahoma killed UA with offensive rebounds time and time again.

Everyone is talking about what Oklahoma did to us on the defensive end but haven’t seen too many posts

about Bama’s defensive efforts on the glass.

Bama hit a wall yesterday.

The Sooners

despite being down 2 starters

handed it to Bama with better effort and what seemed to be livelier legs.

Not aggresive at all, Petty played high. Maybe that game was a wake up call. Oklahoma has been on a roll as of late. 3 top 10 wins in a row. RTR

Thanks for the upper level post, you should tell CNO these mind blowing observations so he can take immediate action....
LOL I can't help but compare the thoughts in this thread to those in a thread on the basketball board. Thank God us hoops fans have our own board. Looks like the OP finally tuned in for a game this season and now instantly has the answers. I love FOGs.

Reese was the sole reason Alabama was in this game. You should rephrase it saying Reese shouldn’t take that many threes in a game. He is a decent 3 point shooter, but not a high volume shooter. And Alabama has been shooting roughly 70% on close ranged shots (layups) the past 3 weeks. So they do practice, just an off day.

Out of all the takes on this game I wouldn’t have anticipated a critique of Reese. This board has been really impressive the last 24 hours... and not in a good way
Reese’s rotation defense has gotten so much better as the season has gone along. I have to be honest Lou I love it when Reese is in the game because I feel as tho he always plays hard (he is obviously banged up) and I don’t think that has always been the case.

ROLL TIDE!!!!

I was a bit surprised by how much Oklahoma was allowed to hand check...Bama’s guards are longer and thinner which is the preferred body type in the freedom of movement era, but doesn’t work well if teams are allowed to put their hands on you. Oklahoma’s smaller guards had a basic quickness advantage, and their other guard was real thick, all of them really benefited from the way the game was called.

Not sure about the Reese stuff...he has definitely been a high potential low output guy for much of his career, but his PER has gone up a decent bit in the absence of Bruner, which is a testament to his stepped up play. Nonetheless, Bruner has the highest PER on the entire team and it’s still a big hole to fill.

@milso47 has said it already, but the guy that struggled the most yesterday was probably Q. He’s a double figure scorer at a key position that was held to 0, and was stymied by the D all day.

All that being said, Bama needs to, and can, play better, which CNO said several times in the post game.

Not a sky is falling game, but one national publication called it a “failed test” which is certainly true, but it wasn’t the final exam.

Lord at the stupidity that is flowing in from TOC.

If you are new to Alabama basketball, which a lot of folks posting on this board now are. Oats wants to have 5 on the floor at any time that can shoot it from 3. There is not a single player that plays meaningful minutes on this team that should EVER turn down an open look from 3. Only exception is probably Rojas.

And even he has hit the open 3 on occasion.

It's him, Rojas or Gary. I'll take Reese please. Gary is doing ok but he's no legit big man. Rojas, God love him, makes me cringe everytime he touches the ball and doesn't immediately pass tho as Lou says even he has knocked down a few 3's. Reese is the obvious guy without Bruner. I notice the op isn't defending his position so I guess the people representing Alex Reese have nothing more your Honor.
