Are you surprised this happened? I am sure you are not. Basketball is a funny game where if you don’t bring it every single night, a team can lose to anyone no matter talent level. I believe Alabama figured that out against UGA. What is good, is they brought it for 40 minutes tonight. Baylor is probably the best overall team in the country in my opinion just because they’re so elite on both ends of the floor.

Alabama’s backcourt was the reason the won tonight. JQ back in the starting lineup had 20, Shack with 19, JD with 14 and huge buckets late. We have arguably the best backcourt in America and they played like it today. Having Gary back really helped as well and you might see him replace Rojas in the starting lineup as well.

What helps this team is they play 2 elite teams in a row next week and they have to sustain this consistency and effort to compete. Hopefully this gives them momentum heading into to those 2 games and can sneak a win out. I said going into this stretch that winning 1 is a win. 2 would be incredible.

JD had a couple of bad turnovers but he had 5 assists and 4 rebounds to go with his 14 points. A couple of those rebounds were late in the game and big plays. This is a different team when he can help us and isn't afraid to play like he is capable of playing. One of his 3 point shots was the kind of situation with the shot clock about down to 0. He didn't have time to think about it and just had to shoot it.

Being 22-26 from the FT line was a big deal as well. We've had games the last few seasons where we played just as well but hit something dumb at the line like 10-26 and lost the game by 6 or 7.

This team was dialed in and focused today. Now can the keep it up for a few more games?

Lets just hope they can take this intensity on the road to the barn.

Just finished watching. Have nothing negative to say. Guys played ball on d and knocked down shots. Q stepped up and really decided the tempo of the whole game. Guess only negative is that if Bediako is going to get 13 minutes he needs to sgow it on the boards. No rebounds in 13 minutes for a 7 footer, dont get it. Maybe this will get the guys to realize the potential they have and bring this effort every night

Bediako is too skinny. He is easily pushed off the block and usually ends up out of position to get a rebound. He hasn't been taught to spread out, get position, and use his wingspan to get some boards. He should be leading the team in rebounding.

One of the adjustments that I've seen is that when start our 1/2 court offense many times is that we go into a 1-4 baseline zone offense and then start our offense after we get about 1/4 court. That helped flatten the defense and created many of the mismatches that we were able to take advantage of during the game.

Can’t be true. Oats does not make adjustments 😉

What’s the word on Darius Miles?
Was wondering this myself. Did he only have a knee sprain or did something bad happen in Athens? Never saw anything mentioned so I assume he's in a place where pregame decides if he's good to go. After some bad games and a doghouse visit he was playing at max effort but kept getting something dinged. We'll need him healthy later in the season as the post season nears.

EDIT: found this elsewhere on Miles from Oats

“Darius has not practiced since the game. His MRI came back good. He hyperextended his knee and he’s got some bone bruising there. He’s got to get the bone healed up so he can deal with the pain, but it’s not going to be long term. Hopefully we’ll have a better answer about that next week. I’m not sure about the Auburn game (Tuesday), possibly the Kentucky game (Saturday, Feb. 5), hopefully.”

Oats said yesterday it’s a hyperextended knee. Probably won’t play against the boogs, but could possibly return for the Kentucky game.

He even called a timeout at the end of half for the timeout nerds on the board!
I got ill at him a couple times in the second half for not calling a time out when Baylor went on a bit of a run. Then I looked at the clock and we were already past the under 8 or under 4 for a timeout. So we played on. Under 4 worked out even better as we made a few baskets before the clock stopped.

Great game to witness at home. The atmosphere was fantastic and Coleman was packed.
82 Team was honored at halftime and Wimp gave us a heartfelt speech….yes he has a heart😎

Two things changed, IMHO, JQ played like we have expected him to AND JD almost played to our expectations. IF these two continue and Shack plays well, then we are going to be a good team.
Gotta add in Gary. We under estimate his value. He had struggled with foul issues leading up to his injury. He’s not our best player but extremely valuable with what he can bring to a team that doesn’t have a replacement for his role

YES! Plus you can give different looks. Sometimes Q would take the ball up and Shack or JD would move to the top of the key to set a pick which leaves our big guys to set baseline screens for themselves. Then saw JD bring the ball up, Shack set a screen for him at the top of the key then gary set an off ball screen at the same time for Q which left him open for a 3. Was beautiful. All 5 moving at the same time and 6 seconds later we have an open look. Its like our guys have to be knocking down shots to mentally be prepared to actually run a half court set. I love the baseline look when we play small too. Specially with a team that switches picks. JDs confidence, Ellis' consistant effort and big shot making, Garys health, Qs mentality and slowing himself down, and Shack hitting open shots and scrapping for boards are the keys to this team. When all of things happen this team is very good. And really the only skill aspect of what I mentioned are making shots, the other crap is mental besides Gary staying healthy. JD and Shack at times looked like Curry moving without the ball last night. They need to do that all the time. Q needs to calm himself down mentally and play fast but think slow. When we are struggling he tries to do too much. I think hes got some of the best handles in college ball and needs to let that come naturally and not force a drive and horrible shot. Shack just hit open shots. Dudes quietly scrappy on defense and the boards. Plays like a 3 sometimes because of how strong and thick he is. And for heavens sake can somebody just slap the shit out of Bediako before tip off. A 7 footer getting 13 minutes and no fn rebounds wtf. Gurley plays in slow motion. He needs to stick his ass in the paint and live there. Hes a pretty decent rim protector. They just need a mean streak. We play defense like that and hit open shots we can win the next two games

If JD can play like this the next two weeks and sustain confidence hes gonna be a pain in the ass for teams. You can also tell he fed into the crowd

I've been critical when they lose to teams they have no business losing to; I will hand out credit where credit is due. Oats had them ready to play from the opening tip-off until the final buzzer. The attacked the basket; I saw more movement and less one on one, they played hard on D even if not great at time, and I even saw a couple of pick and roll plays.

Gary is the key outside good guard play. He does the dirty stuff and is always in a good position for a key rebound or putback on a miss.

he puts the blue in blue collar
