Alabama has won 15 straight football games. That is the longest current winning streak in the nation, but as streaks go, it isn't particularly overwhelming. It's nowhere near Alabama's longest-ever winning streak, 28 games under Bear Bryant, and it's not close to the longest recent winning streak, FSU's 29 straight in the Jameis Winston era, not to mention Oklahoma's all-time record of 47 straight.
But, even at only 15 games, it is already impressive, as 13 of the wins have been over tough teams - something FSU probably never achieved in that entire 29-game streak.
The toughness of Western Kentucky needs a little explanation. WKU is not a big-time program, but . . . the loss to Bama is defending Conference USA champ WKU's only loss in its last nine games, and the Hilltoppers stand a pretty decent chance of running that streak on out and finishing this season with only the one loss and a second straight conference title.
The other 12 victories over noteworthy programs in the streak need not be explained, but only the victims listed:
Georgia
Arkansas
Texas A&M
Tennessee
LSU
Mississippi St. (OK, a little explanation: with Dak Prescott)
Auburn
Florida
Michigan St.
Clemson
USC
Ole Miss
That's 13 bowl/playoff teams in the last 15 games (i.e., the last one full season), including every good team in the SEC and none of the four worst (Vandy, Kentucky, Missouri and South Carolina). The next time you hear somebody saying Alabama plays a weak schedule, ask them how many bowl teams their team has played in the last year. Bet it ain't 13.
