Anyone hearing anything on possible assistants? I guess Oats is busy working on the roster, but you would think he and Pett could use some help.

Would hate to lose Pett, but now is probably the best time for him to get a head coaching job.

If he leaves we need someone that knows the HS coaches in Alabama even if we recruit few of these guys.
Heck Xcop, I really wonder if knowing High School coaches is worth the effort given at how the transfer portal for the most part seems to be the route to build ones team each year. Seems to be very little loyalty by players regardless of how much playing time they got. Creighton's starting point guard enters the Transfer portal and as the story goes a good part of the team is returning to make a run for the title. The head coach is scratching his head as to why and simply has no explanation to what more he could have done as a coach to keep the returning players on the team.

Yes that may be a need of the past. At one time you had to have those relationships like Pett has . With the recruiting changes we have it may not be as important. The deal with that PG is pretty weird. I wonder if he has been promised NIL money somewhere.

I know it is fishing, but Mike Anderson is out of work. Been a head coach at UAB, Arkansas and St. John's. Should have good knowledge recruiting wise in southeast, midwest and northeast. Could sell it as a platform to get another HQ job based on this past year's staff.

Like you said its probably not going to happen, but it would not hurt to give him a call. Mike Anderson would do a good job IMO if you could get him.

He is one of my favorite former assistants. I would love to have him back. Andrew Steele is a former player and assistant coach that I think would be a good hire.
If I heard this correctly, Polinsky was the de facto defensive coordinator for the Vols, including the superb defensive plan for the game in Knoxville versus Bama.

Saw elsewhere that Roy was likely getting one spot as well as Preston Murphy (don't get this one). Both have to wait a few months for one reason or another before they get to campus. Murphy has NCAA baggage that hasn't run its course just yet.

No one from the Coleman crazies forum is getting a look???
😜
I was going to coach but they wouldn't let me have my Cognac bottle on the bench (a deal breaker). I was even willing to drink it from a Bama cup but it was a no-go!

It’s going to be interesting how he puts this staff together. Will he hire young coaches that he can convince that his system of averaging is best? Or will he consider that he was beat in the sweet16 because he couldn’t hit a 3 point shot. That a good team will block a layup by a 6 foot point guard. Or, that they were killing him by the mid range jumper that he forbids. It’s going to be interesting to see if he brings in experience coaches that can help him evolve like coach Saban has done to stay on top? I love this young coach because he has brought back excitement to the program. But, not shooting a mid range jumper is as silly as Lane Kiffin going for it on forth down just because of averages.

And Pettway was on Avery’s and Anthony grant’s staff…

and, by the way, Hobbs’ teams played good defense ..

Grant and Avery didn’t put Bama’s program in the ditch. They couldn’t pull it out but they didn’t put it in there.

That happened after Wimp was let go.

I will forever blame Gottfried for the overall state of the program. He had a moment to get the program to a good place if he had just pushed a little harder with the admin and kept the coaching staff solid. Instead he had a few good seasons and one fluke of a run then went night putting with coeds and applied next to zero effort in replacing good coaches with good coaches (which he had to do as he rarely actually coached much himself).

He hung on just long enough to leave a rotting corpse of a program when the one he inherited merely needed some tending to. It was a mess but a manageable mess. What Grant inherited was 3 or 4 talented head cases and an overall malaise that couldn't be fixed by simply getting the job done. It needed some high energy and heavy promotion.

Hobbs was a pathetic coach that was highly underqualified for the job. Wimp had an assistant that was qualified and wanted the job, but we let him get away to Providence, then Clemson, then Texas and now Tennessee. Barnes had a dispute with some power brokers that would not set their ego's aside, so we got an incompetent moron instead.

Just pointing out the difference the head coach makes ..
Pettway is a much better assistant coach after a 31-6 team vs mediocrity with grant and Avery

Likewise, can you bury polinsky because of the poor Hobbs era?

Now I remember- Alabama’s great recruiting assistant then was James Green. So Hobbs favored Polinsky as his top asst.

Green moved on. Bama slid down.
