I think the NCAA let four teams and the country down with the officiating yesterday. Regardless of what team lost the second game last night, the losing team would have had a valid complaint with the horrendous calls that were made during the game. With the score 60-56 the officials all missed a flagrant one on Kentucky and that was even after a review. They followed that miss with a sure miss of a 35 second shot clock violation and then after the game was tied the officials decided the outcome of the game on an obvious flop, with little or no contact. That was one of the officials better spurts of officiating during the game. It is horrible to think that the national champion will be decided Monday, not by the play on the Court but by officials that are not qualified to call the game, in the semi-finals. The first game was equally as bad, with holds, hand checks, lane violations, carries, and missed calls. The phantom call was alive and well yesterday.
I will say, that I have seen better officiated games in the SEC and that is saying a lot.
Look, I am not saying that Kentucky would not have lost the game with better officials, because I saw plenty of miscarries, fouls on blocked shots, a foul called on Wisconsin's big man when he had a clean knock away, but the officiating last night was not worthy of a championship game. We saw four championship teams and six awful officials. The NCAA owes Michigan State, Kentucky, Duke, Wisconsin and the fans of college basketball an apology for what happened last night.
