What really hurt last night was the Baylor Backcourt, which may be the best in the country. Butler and Mitchell anchor what may be the backcourt that will propel Baylor to a title and last night the announcers referred to Butler starting his college days at Alabama and Mitchell starting his college days at the Barn. Baylor also has two other main players that came out of the transfer portal. Baylor built this team on transfers.

With the Transfer Portal, are we headed for the day when College Coaches at places like Kentucky and others spend there time recruiting Freshmen and Sophomores from other teams and two and done? Recruiting Two and Done makes a whole lot more sense, as you already know how a player can perform and leads to less mistakes. The player also comes into the program knowing the position he is going to play and how he fits in. The player comes into the program more developed and with a better attitude. You can also attack your leading opponents by going after their best players. In short the transfer portal is better for the big schools that can benefit from unrestricted free agency.

The one and done player does not come in and mope around if he is not starting on Day One and by going the Portal Route, you don't have to put up with AAU coaches, so the player is a lot more coachable, You also do not get a bad attitude from a young man that is only in college, because he is waiting his time until the NBA draft.

I could also see a day that each major college will have two or three third tier programs that they work with, where the coach feeds the recruits to the smaller-lower tier schools and then plucks the best players for his program as they are ready and he needs them. Right now we have three young men that have a lot of potential; however, they were not ready for prime time this year. You can now fill that spot with someone out of the portal that is ready and you can let the younger player develop at a smaller program. In short the Transfer Portal may be the game changer in recruiting and college basketball.

It really hurts that we would not let Butler play at Alabama. With Butler, we are in the final four this year. There is little doubt as to why he was a first team All American and probably player of the year. I know if was a medical clearance, but it still hurts.

You make great points. Players will be hopping around like a game of checkers.

Why did Mitchell transfer from barnville?
My guess would be he didn’t play enough for his liking? Not sure how but I don’t really remember him. And there are plenty of shots to go around with Pearl, so playing time seems logical.

jared harper started over him.

Harper should have started over him. Harper made the Barn go. With Cooper and Mitchell, Auburn would have been something this year.

With unrestricted Free Agency, as I call the transfer portal, one and done will be useless. Would you rather have a five star player for one year that only cares about going to the NBA, or a proven player that is two or three years more mature? Gonzaga will be going for an undefeated title and the championship with one five star recruit. UCLA's top player was a five star recruit that could not break into the starting lineup at Kentucky, so he transferred. Baylor's star player is a four star transfer from Alabama that the team doctor's ran off.

Butler for three years or Kyra Lewis for two? With Butler at the point, is Alabama playing tonight?

one and done’s are flashy, but you don’t see a lot of teams winning with more than a 1-2 of these. i think the best teams in cbb are the one’s with an experienced, upperclassmen filled roster with a few elite NBA talent young pups on the team. kentucky is filled with a who’s who of guys that will play in the league, and while i think covid messed their year up and they will be better than most team’s on average, they were stupid bad this year.

the problem with stacking talent is kids will transfer. davion mitchell transferred because he didn’t get enough pt. butler at least transferred bc alabama wouldn’t clear him.

it’s going to be rare to see teams outside of kentucky have 3-4+ 5* on the roster. those who don’t play like they think they should will hit the road.
