baylor transfer matthew mayer

has heard for bama. big time player.
Somebody explain to me like I am 5 why a kid would declare for the draft and enter the portal when he plays for a perennial top 10 team?? Are these upper tier kids just doing it so that all of their options are open? NIL driven??

While I am not a huge fan of the CNO’s system I believe Mayer would be great in the CNO system and make us a better team.

3 years, 2 conference championships, one sweet 16, two ncaa tournament appearances, top 5 recruiting class. Fire away. We had one of the most efficient offenses in the country last year.
Oats has won one conference championship. The other one you’re referring to was a tournament title, not a league title. Missed the tournament one year, and got smoked by an 11 seed in round one this past season. His second season was very successful, the other two not so much. Time will tell if year two was just an outlier.

The tournament championship is a conference title. I want you to seriously think through this. Grant’s best season in 6 years was equivalent to Oat’s third year that you deem “unsuccessful.”

I’m not comparing Oats to Grant, and I certainly never said that season was more successful. At least we were competitive in the game against Creighton versus getting smoked by a very mediocre Notre Dame team.

You said you prefer Grant over Oats. I’m sure if the Nortre Dame game was more “competitive” you would completely change your tune. I don’t know a single fan who looks back on the Grant years and says: “Hey, at least we were competitive against Creighton in his only tournament appearance.” Btw, I really like Grant and have a lot of respect for him. But, some of y’all’s dislike for oats is just beyond bizarre.

Just listen to yourself, man. I mean good lord. This is laughable. Oats may not be elite, that’s yet to be seen, but I mean you clearly just hate the dude. You’re really comparing Grants ONLY TOURNAMENT TEAM to Oats second tournament team in three years. You try to dog on the guy everytime you get. Deranged stuff.

Oats at times seems as if he is still learning on the job and does not make changes quick enough to help change momentum at times. But otherwise Oats has done well and as per winning the SEC, he better be glad he had Herb cause he was the glue and Leadership that propelled the team. This years team had no leadership, period.
Absolutely no Alpha Dogs. And it showed.

I have never said that I prefer Grant over Oats. Don’t know where you got that. I’m not a big fan of either to be honest. I pull for Dayton to lose now that Grant is there.

Dude my bad. Got you confused with UAgolf.

You literally said it in this thread
No, I literally did not say that. If you need help reading this thread maybe you should ask a 10 or 11 year old who can assist you in understanding how the word “literally” does not fit in another of your very false claims. Sweet you are developing a track record of dancing around facts to fit your difference of opinions.

You said you don’t prefer Oats’ system. Quickdraw asked if you’re a bigger fan of Avery or Grant. I took that to mean Avery or Grant over Oats. You said Grant. If I’m mistaken then I apologize. Now, if we want to dig up some posts and see who speaks more like a 10 or 11 year old we could do that. It’s been pretty painful

How come every time someone post about a potential transfer it gets hijacked by people who want to fight about how right they are about a certain subject. Yes this is a message board and we are all here to discuss Alabama basketball but if you want to argue back and forth about which coach is best then start a new thread so if new info comes in about a certain player we can all read about without having to scrolling through an argument. Thanks and Roll Tide!!

Fair enough. I agree. Sorry for derailing

You have been a great basketball fan and a solid contributor to this board for many many years during both good times and bad, you talk about what you want to talk about!!

ROLL TIDE!!
I appreciate it, but I have noticed I’ve become a bit more argumentative lately. Need to chill a bit.

Look, guys. Oats's system is geared toward the three. No question about that. But we took more mid-range shots than a lot of teams not using Oats' a7pproach. Because we spread the floor, we create more second-chance opportunities IF we hustle all the time. And on nights we do, we have been damned hard to stop.

Oats is not going to change his philosophy just because a few fans don't like it. His Buffalo teams upset quite a few higher ranked teams using it, including early round knockouts among title favorites. We had growing pains this year with a few guys who either could not or would not hustle. Bad chemistry late, too. But if we are healthy next year, we will have a formidable lineup, capable of putting up points in droves. And with the quickness and athleticism to have a stiffling D.

Oats' program is still growing. Let's give him a realistic chance to do things HIS way. I still feel like he could be a Billy Donovon-type hire for Florida if we give him a fair chance.

Hell, we gave Gottfried three more years than he deserved. We can afford to give Oats plenty of time.
