Let's get the discussion going.. Feel free to add your own thoughts on different topics.
Weekend Outlook
I wasn't really impressed when I started looking at the weekend games. Did not see a lot of marquee games. Maybe because there so many top 10 match ups. Upon further review, we should get to enjoy some great games beginning on Thursday night with Western Kentucky/La Tech and Temple/Memphis. Forget the records. These should be very competitive games.
Bama at Arkansas: Another tough SEC road game for Jalen Hurts. I think Alabama has way too much talent on both sides of the ball to get beat by the Razorbacks. I'm thinking 38-17.
LSU at Florida: Will the game even happen? Fournette is out. We'll know by tomorrow if the game is going to take place.
Notre Dame at N.C. State: Notre Dame's defense has been atrocious. N.C. State hasn't played anyone. This isn't a good game, but if N.C. State wins Brian Kelly's seat gets a lot hotter.
Maryland at Penn State: Did you know Maryland is undefeated? I think they roll the Nittany Lions this weekend. James Franklin may be looking for a new home next year.
Auburn at Mississippi State: No way Gus loses this game right? He loses, he's gone. IMO.
Texas at Oklahoma: Remember when this game was great?
Virginia Tech at North Carolina: Each team with only one loss and ranked in the top 25.
Tennessee at Texas A&M: Aggies will go up by 21 in the first half. Tennessee will take the lead in the fourth quarter. A&M with a hail mary for the win?
Vanderbilt at Kentucky: Great football
Colorado at USC: Lot of points to be scored. Buffs come out on top.
Georgia at South Carolina: Sloppy game with hurricane force winds.
Washington at Oregon: Upset special?
FSU at Miami: Another game up in the air played this weekend. Love the Hurricanes this year, but with the Noles backs against the wall it will not surprise me if they win. If they play.
Washington State and Stanford: Mike Leach steals a win at The Farm.
NFL Slate
Arizona at San Francisco: I really thought the 1-3 Cardinals were Super Bowl contenders. Need a big turn around. Can Drew Stanton beat the 49ers with Palmer out? Quinton Dial trying to make some plays in the backfield. He's really stepped up his game.
Patriots at Browns: Brady and Gronk are about to go HAM.
Tennessee at Miami: Derrick Henry vs. Kenyan Drake. Which one breaks out?
Washington at Baltimore: C.J. Mosley is having a Pro Bowl year.
Philadelphia at Detroit: The Eagles are legit. Carson Wentz is legit. They are winning the Super Bowl. OK, maybe not, but they are good. Like to see A'Shawn Robinson have a good game for the Lions.
Chicago at Indy: Garbage all-around.
Jets at Steelers: Jets need a win here. Steelers are so good especially with Le'Veon back in the lineup.
Houston at Minnesota: Two good teams. Vikings D is so good. Sam Bradford off to a great start.
Atlanta at Denver: Should be an interesting game. Julio not likely to go for 300 this week.
Cincinnati at Dallas: Interesting game. Dak and Zeke haven't looked like rookies thus far. Dre Kirkpatrick returns to the lineup after missing with an injury last week.
Buffalo at the Rams: Rams could come back to reality this week. How are they 3-1? Never know though. Rex is still pretty happy about beating the Patriots. Cross country trip is tough. Dareus returns.
San Diego at Oakland: Amari might have 300 this week.
Giants at Packers (SNF): Eddie Lacy and Landon Collins might bump heads a few times.
Tampa Bay at Carolina (MNF): Does anyone really care?
Recruiting Quick hitters
Alex Leatherwood, five-star offensive tackle from Washington High School in Pensacola
Leatherwood has certainly kept a lot of people on their toes regarding his recruitment. He made some interesting comments after the official visit to Michigan. He is currently scheduled to visit Florida. We'll see if the game takes place. Leatherwood is expected to return to Tuscaloosa for more games this season, and will take his official visit the weekend of the Iron Bowl. I've spoken with a few different sources this week. He will stick with his commitment unless he is completely misleading the staff.
Cam Akers, five-star running back from Clinton High School in Mississippi
Akers has remained in contact with the Alabama coaching staff since his decommitment several months ago. He had always planned to return to Tuscaloosa for an official visit. He will take the visit on October 22 for the Texas A&M game. Recruits who decommit don't often re-join the class where previously committed. Alabama has welcomed players back including Shyheim Carter in the 2016 class. Alabama has an impressive stable of young running backs. Two commitments in the 2017 class including No.1 overall Najee Harris. Make no mistake- Alabama wants Akers in this class. Tough pull.
Jacob Phillips, Rivals100 linebacker from East High School in Nashville, Tennessee
Phillips had a great official visit to Alabama this past weekend. He left with really strong feelings for the Crimson Tide. Hard to fit him in the class at this point. A spot available down the road? Absolutely. It's just not the case right now with his decision coming next week. Dylan Moses, Rivals100 linebacker from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, took the spot.
Kendall Randolph, four-star offensive tackle from Bob Jones High School in Madison, Alabama (Alabama commitment)
Randolph was selected to play in the U.S. Army All-American game. Several former Crimson Tide stars have participated in the game including AJ McCarron, T.J. Yeldon, Derrick Henry, D.J. Fluker, Dre Kirkpatrick and C.J. Mosley, just to name a few.
Five players I expect in Alabama's class as of today
LaBryan Ray, DeVonta Smith, Major Tennison, Chris Allen, Phidarian Mathis
Coaches on the road Friday night
Alabama defensive line coach Karl Dunbar will watch Crimson Tide commitment Akial Byers, four-star defensive tackle from Fayetteville High School in Arkansas play on Friday night. Wide receivers coach Billy Napier plans to watch commitment Tyrell Shavers, four-star wide receiver from Lewisville High School in Texas.
Mike VI, the Tiger
You might not like LSU, but you have to feel for the mascot who is dying from cancer. One of the most impressive live mascots in college football. He is only expected to live for another 1-2 months. Hate to see.
Stay safe everyone in the path of Hurricane Matthew
I spoke to a good friend of mine today who lives in Savannah. He and his family were evacuating today until after the storm passes. I know many of you are effected by this storm. Please stay safe this weekend! Hopefully, there is minimal damage in your areas.
The Cowboys fall to 3-3
I know several of you have kept up with my third grade football team this fall. We had a two game win streak snapped on Tuesday night. We took a 26-21 lead with just about a minute left in the game. Unfortunately, we could not stop the opposing team. We have two games remaining in the season before playoffs begin. I fully expect us to finish 5-3. Two of our losses are against the same team. I think we will play them again. Third time is the charm.
Fantasy Football season
How is your team doing this fall? I started out pretty hot, 3-0. Then all of a sudden I lose to the guy who is 0-3 in the league. Are you kidding me? Thanks Julian Edelman and Doug Baldwin. Fleener you were terrible again. Dropped. Picked up Hunter Henry since Bama is playing Arkansas this weekend and doesn't have to deal with him any longer. Back on the right path this weekend. Let's go!
Anyone care about the baseball playoffs?
Bumgarner vs. Thor tonight. Should be a very good game. Ready to watch the Rangers vs. Blue Jays game tomorrow. Boston vs. Cleveland tomorrow night as well. Red Sox are my AL champions pick with likely everyone else.
Favorite food friends in BHM (Lakeview) Shoutout
Those who know me well know I'm usually out and about in Birmingham. I run around with great friends. We hit good bars and restaurants every week. I am glad to have a few close friends who thrive in the restaurant business.
Just wanted to link a few very good articles on the Bajalieh brothers and Mary Susan Cashio. Check out their restaurants if you are in Birmingham. Good chance you will run into me at one of the four spots. Bob Carlton (an Alabama fan) did a great job on these content pieces. The Bajaliehs were actually on the front page of the Birmingham News today 'Magic City's First Family of Food'.
