Alabama landed a commitment from a top 30 player in 6'11 220lb Charles Bediako from IMG Academy. Bediako has a 7'3 wingspan and is a force down low around the basket. If he can add some weight and muscle, he will be an elite big man in college. That is why he is so highly rated because of his upside and potential. He will likely start out the season on the bench behind Tchikou, or if Wilson stands out in the offseason. The front court will be a lot deeper now with the addition of Bediako.
Bediako has great instincts around the basket and can really defend the rim. He is not a liability if he is forced to play defense outside of the paint, but his foot speed and footwork could use work (as does every high school senior big man). He can handle the ball pretty well comparatively speaking for a kid his size, but he will not be asked to handle it in college much at all. He has the potential to step out and hit some shots outside of the paint, but that part of his game will be a project. With his wingspan, he will be a great player to have defending to post after he adds muscle.
Bediako is a huge commitment for Alabama. There was smoke that he wasn't going to go to Alabama and that the coaches didn't think he fit, which I thought was very odd, but that tuned out to be false information being spread. He will give Alabama a top class in the country and helps fill the loss of Bruner and Reese in the frontcourt with more talent.
