He is far too weak to play in the post in the NBA and far too unathletic to play on the wing. He has been bullied when playing stronger players in college; guys in the NBA will eat him alive...

I wouldn’t want to be the guy that felt the need to draft him high. Has there ever been a big man from Gonzaga play well in the NBA?

If his jump shot holds up then there will be a role for a 7footer that can knock down the 3 at a high rate, but he may have a Lauri Markkanen role player type ceiling unless he physically develops a lot. If his jump shot doesn’t translate, well…

As a Bulls fan who was excited when we drafted him, I can see that. he has to add some muscle because those are some grown men at the next level.

Who will he guard in the NBA? I haven’t watched him a lot. But it seems like a big guy would just push him around and a smaller guy would just blow by him.

Sort of the same situation they have with Markkanen (who has gotten a lot thicker since joining the league) when playing him at the 3 although Holmgren seems to be a better shot blocker…big guy just has to play off enough to keep position and use his length to close and challenge late on jumpers. Not a great way to be a defensive stopper, but better than giving up drives constantly and you do add length for secondary defense which can help the team D.

IMO he is a riskier prospect than Markkanen…skinnier and not as consistent of a shooter.

Slightly off topic, I think Jaylin Williams is severely underrated in the mock drafts right now. I love his size and athleticism for a 4/5, plus his ball skills have really developed a lot. It wouldn’t shock me to see him outplay Holmgren.

They play a 7 footer at the 3?

Yes, Cleveland has started and played Markkanen, Mobley, and Allen at the same time quite a lot this year, with Markkanen playing the 3, and it has been effective.
If a 7 footer can be smart about it and do a decent job guarding the 3, that has to be an advantage.

I’m todays small ball environment it certainly brings another element to the game when they roll out three 7 footers along with Lavert/Okoro (both of whom are good sized and really athletic) at the 2. Been enough to get them the 6th seed in the east so far even with a pretty rough injury season (including Sexton).

I would still feel a lot more comfortable picking up Holmgren in the mid first round and just hoping to get a possible starter/rotation player out of him vs drafting at the top and trying to make him a centerpiece. But candidly I don’t see a ton of difference makers at the top of the 2022 class. Seems like a fair number of guys that could be starters but not necessarily stars.

Drew Timme is a one trick pony as well.
Timmy Turner is a gamer, he just doesn’t have the measurements the NBA is looking for but the man has heart. I know a lot of people didn't like him, but I would love to have someone like him on this team. That is if Oats would actually draw up plays for him in the post. Sorry, I couldn't help myself...
