Just an FWIW on the women's tennis front:
Emily Zabor was named SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year in women’s tennis, marking the fifth year in a row that a University of Alabama player has won the honor.
Alabama’s Erin Routliffe and Maya Jansen were named first-team All-SEC.
Zabor, UA’s senior captain, also recently was named the Paul W. Bryant Award winner.
"Emily has done an exemplary job leading our program in the classroom," said Crimson Tide coach Jenny Mainz. "She’s been one of the best ambassadors that the University of Alabama has ever seen. Her dedication and commitment to excellence academically will undoubtedly be a big part of her legacy at Alabama."
A Marietta, Ga. native, Zabor has twice been named an NCAA Elite 89 Award winner – the first repeat winner in women’s tennis – an award presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA’s 89 championships.
Zabor graduated summa cum laude last May, finishing her degree work in three years as a member of the University Honors Program with a bachelor’s degree in commerce and business administration. She earned a 4.0 cumulative grade-point average in her undergraduate degree, majoring in marketing. She has been a mainstay on the President’s List and Dean’s List throughout her undergraduate career and is currently enrolled in the master’s degree program in marketing.
Routliffe, a sophomore, was named to the first team for the second straight season. Jansen was an SEC All-Freshman selection in 2013 and was named to the All-SEC second team a season ago.
Routliffe is nearing 50 career wins in less than two full seasons at Alabama, with 18 singles victories and 26 doubles wins this season. Jansen has gone 26-4 in singles.
Routliffe and Jansen are reigning NCAA doubles champions, going 18-1 during the dual match season and 26-3 overall so far.
