At a time when about the only way to follow Alabama football was radio only. He along with John Forney and Jerry Duncan were as important announcers as they come. They would call the game straight--if Bama was playing lousy they would say it. If somebody made a truly great block, they would tell it. Those three called a lot of great games. Doug Layton passed away in Birmingham yesterday.
