I remember the Tide having the nasty (not dirty) players on both side of the ball. That had disposition, like I'm the baddest thang on the field, and I'm going to dominate you!
Recent memory- Big DJ Fluker.. a rather large man, with a good motor. I can recall sitting in my living room watching a Tide game, and here it is; one of the biggest, if not the biggest guy on the field- jumping up and down, pumping up his teammates in the huddle with no regards for their feelings, persuading AJ to run the ball to his side (Mind you-this is the 4th quarter!). Because he felt he could dominate the guy in front of him- that attitude was just FLAT OUT NASTY!
In regards of the Defensive side of the ball.. Big Marcel Dareus comes to mind. Big, tough, with an imposing figure. He never seem to take a down off. Dominated at Nose, and tackle position. I remember the 'strong man' flex he would display after making a play,..forcing a turnover, making a tackle etc,.. That raw emotion would fire me up, and most importantly his teammates as well. To take a deeper dive- the guy that many know as 'ROLO' (who was out of his mind!!)..I feel it's no need to elaborate on him, just take a look at the epic locker room speech-it speaks for it's self. Their attitude was just FLAT OUT NASTY!
Will we see that this year? I'm not sure. However, the above is the epitome of ALABAMA FOOTBALL. So, I'm hoping someone 'takes the bull by the horns' and express some of that 'nastiness', like the players of the past have.
