gotta get better point guard play

i am very proud of this team. players are having a very good year. coach oats and his staff have done a great job.

i have really enjoyed this season.

my biggest concern before the season was point guard play. we only have one on the team and he has struggled. herb, primo, and shack are not point guards. they can be much more effective if they are left on the wings.

this is a really good team that i am proud of, but we are a point guard away from being elite. if we make a run in the big dance J.Q. has to step up.

by the way J.Q. played pretty well today, but he has to get better at doing what a point guard needs to do. break defenses down, create and distribut to open shooters. primo played 28 minutes and never shot. gotta figure out how to get him and petty open looks and get them the ball.

we also need another point guard. one is not enough.

Need JQ to be better for sure. Primo is a catch and shoot guy and they’ve just run him off the line. Doesn’t have the quickness to drive into the lane with any effectiveness. He needs to be coming off the bench to spark us with some shooting maybe.

I agree. JQ is too inconsistent and seems sheltered. Hetb shouldn’t be our full time PG.

i think JD will do well at the point, but you never know until you get these kids on campus. we have at least have two true point guards once we get him .

I think JQ made some big time 3’s but his turnovers needs a lot of work. Announcers even mentioned about Oats meeting with JQ on Friday to discuss his turnover problem.

We HAVE TO HAVE JQ step up his game to be real contenders in the tournament. He needs to fix his turnover issues, and his defense, more times than not, leaves a lot to be desired.

Been saying this for a few games now. It’s been obvious lately. Teams has started plastering to the shooters and nobody has been able to make them pay. JQ has to be able to get the ball inside and finish to force help. And/or we need much more movement and motion in our half court offense.

Point guard play was and has been subpar. But, today’s game was to much one v one which resulted in horrible shot selection.

PG or someone has to attack the seams...pretty hard for the PG to attack a set defense from the top, so it is usually going to be the wings, but they have to drive with the intent to score while keeping their passing angles open...and our finishers have to finish.

Our “PG” is usually on the wing. And there are plenty of seams bc people aren’t helping. We just can’t get in there bc we don’t have the personnel to do it consistently. We need more motion and movement in the half court.

JQ never saw a shot he didn't like! He needs to distribute more before he gets so far under the basket the only thing he can do is get his shot blocked or the ball taken away.
