Harper - 7 foot kid from Winfield

Senior - Logan Feltman
Averages 24.5 a game
10.8 rebounds a game
3.4 blocks a game

Might be more likely to get @Harper41 's attention on the basketball board.

Google searching looks like this kid is basically not on anyone's radar. Signed to Shelton St. I would guess given we have a 5 player class already that we likely aren't looking at this kid. Its probably more likely we fill out what we still need from the transfer portal.

Let him and Alex T play some one on one and let’s see what he’s about…
That's whats wrong with basketball right now. They all play one on one. More to it than just creating a shot for yourself. Is he smart enough to play zone? Can he make others better with passing? How's his movement without the ball in his hands, floor spacing..... ? This one on one is why I no longer watch NBA basketball. And they play no defense.

That problem may be that teams play one on one but that’s the coaches call, not the kids. But I’m on the ground floor here with this issue. I can promise you the problem isn’t that kids are playing one on one. It’s that kids aren’t playing. The problem with basketball is kids are playing Xbox and with iPhones. Kids aren’t in the yard anymore playing 1 on 1, 2 on 2 or anything. Heck there probably isn’t even a goal outside their house.

I have questions when a 7-footer suddenly pops up on the radar and no one has heard of him.
(1). What type of competition was he facing in high school?
(2) Can he be effective when defenders are his size?
(3). If he's that talented, why Shelton State?
(4). Does he have academic issues?

Kids just don't play outside anymore. I can remember when I was young how the streets would be filled with bikes on Christmas morning. Now it's rare to see a kid outside riding a bike. Outdoor bb courts were all over and well-used. In today's climate, given all of the electronic doo-gadgets, I wish I had invested in "AA" batteries.

Yep. I see it first hand. I think my kids would be outside anyway but I’d make them if they didn’t want to bc of what I see from some of these teenagers today.

I hear he has really matured and coming into his own . I don't think he has any academic issues .

When my nephew was 14ish, I remember him getting in trouble and it was about 9 am and his dad told him to go outside and ride his bicycle and not come back in until 12.
Around 9:45 he came in sweating and wore out and begged to come inside.

He can walk on if he want, but I would hope a scholarship isn’t held for this kid. Bama has to be able to recruit better than him.
I'll defer to you because I haven't seen hide nor hair of the young fella. Is he thinner than Bediako?

I never heard of him until this thread, but to be fair I don’t really follow recruiting. I looked him up and he’s not ranked, he played 3A, he’s 6’10”, 205 but only has a 6’9” wingspan. That’s a really short wingspan for someone to tall, by comparison James Harden is 6’5” with a 6’11” wingspan…

I think their are good players everywhere. And there are kids in lower classifications that can play at Bama. But taking a kid from a lower classification in Alabama is dangerous. JD’s don’t come around often and you can see as talented as he is how he’s struggled with the speed and such.

Coached against him tonight and he’s a great player for 3A. He’s very raw and not very athletic. Can shoot from outside pretty well but gets pushed around by bigger guys. He’s 6’10 tho. Not 7 foot.

They list him at 6’10 on maxpreps. I saw where he scores like 23 a game but they have another guy that I assume is a guard that scores 28 a game….

Tall don't make you great and Winfield plays weak competition.
Yeah sounds like a project that might give a P5 school a return in 3-4 years. I don't fall in love with kids because they are 6'10." Give me a kid that doesn't have to grow into his body. 6'8" is just as effective if a guy knows how to handle himself.

We lost 62-50. We went up 17-7 but only playing 6 guys worse us down. It was a close game throughout. Making it to the Sweet 16 for the first time in 11 years is a great accomplishment
I’ve watched the guard from Winfield for the 1st time today. You may be watching too. He had 13 of their 15 first quarter points. Now mid way through the 2nd he has 16 of their 22. They can matchup athletically today but he’s still killing them. But he’s looked like he’s tired in this 2nd quarter a little. If they win today, he can’t take any breaths in the next game.
How did y’all try to guard him? It’d take a team effort to TRY and guard him and the big kid at this level.

Very early in the 4th and the two Winfield kids have 40 of their 44 points. The guard has 28 points and 14 rebounds.

Are you at the game or is there somewhere online that someone (definitely not me) could watch at their desk as they pretend to work for the next hour or so?

NFHS Network. $10 for a month. I pay it a lot of the year. But you can just go back from the last state Championship game and pay the $10 for up until then and you can watch the last month of playoff basketball for $10.

We ran a Triangle and 2 against them and it really helped. Put our best guard on McGee and he did as well as he could, but tired out. Mcgee is just so good. We pinched the middle anytime big kid ran inside and always had two guys bumping him.

You’d have probably been ok if their guard would have been just a decent high school guard. He’s beyond that.
