Anfernee Jennings recorded 11 tackles on the day against Citadel

The Good

Tua breaks the school record for passing touchdowns in a season with 31. His remarkable season becomes more and more memorable. He finished with 340-yards off 18 completions and three touchdowns. His rating was 256.6. How about Jalen Hurts coming into the game during the fourth quarter? Was great to see him come into the game and while his first throw was rusty as an old nail in the garage, the rest of his game looked good and that touchdown pass to DeVonta Smith was well timed. The student section started chanting “Jalen!” “Jalen!” after that score.

Jaylen Waddle is a very dangerous weapon. He’s the fastest player on the field at all-times which says something because Henry Ruggs is a flash. Speaking with Tony in the press box, Waddle has clearly become Tua’s second favorite target after Jerry Jeudy. On the game, Waddle finished with six receptions for 90-yards and two touchdowns. Jerry Jeudy caught for six receptions for 77-yards, and Henry Ruggs caught for six receptions for 114-yards.

Anfernee Jennings has a monster game. Where has he been all season? 11 tackles, 4 for solos and one fumble recovery for a touchdown. Yes, I get it, Citadel has a running team, which is going to send more action his way, but he played well today and 11 tackles is outstanding no matter what week. Mack Wilson also had 9 tackles, Deionte Thompson had 8 tackles, and Dylan Moses had 7 tackles.

The Bad

Citadel ran for over 250-yards against Alabama. Yes, Citadel runs the wishbone, but there is zero excuse for allowing this many yards. Who in your opinion is accountable for this?

Running game woes? Maybe I’m looking too much into this, but it does not seem like Damien Harris is running at his best. Sure his 73-yarder was great, but in his other six attempts, he was swallowed up. I’d like to see more of Najee Harris, but the hot hand at running back seems to change each week.

Missed PATs. Now 8 on the season. I can’t even believe it. If a game this season depends on a successful PAT, Alabama might be sh*t out of luck because that PAT unit is terrible.

Post Game Notes

NOTESGAME CAPTAINS: Alabama’s captains against The Citadel were tight end Hale Hentges, linebacker Anfernee Jennings and defensive back Deionte Thompson.

25 IN A ROW AT HOME: With its 50-17 win over The Citadel, Alabama has now won 25-consecutive games at Bryant-Denny Stadium, which is now the longest home winning streak in school history. The Crimson Tide won 24 in a row at home (Bryant-Denny and Legion Field combined) from Sept. 18, 1971 to Nov. 9, 1974.

TIDE REACHES 11 WINS FOR THE 22nd TIME: With its 50-17 win over The Citadel, Alabama secured its 11th victory of the year, marking the 22nd time in program history that the Tide has achieved the feat. Under head coach Nick Saban, Alabama has had 10 11-win seasons (2008-09, 2011-18). It is Alabama’s eighth-straight season with at least 11 wins, which is the longest streak of its kind in SEC history.

20-POINT VICTORY STREAK: Alabama has opened the season with 11-consecutive victories by 20 points or more, which is the most to start a season in NCAA history. The streak also surpasses the previous record of 10 consecutive 20-point victories at any point in a season, set by Boise State from Sept. 14-Nov. 23, 2002.

TIDE SENIORS POST 52nd WIN: Alabama’s 50-17 win over The Citadel was the 52nd for members of Alabama’s senior class. The group has now posted a record of 52-3 (.945) to rank No. 2 in NCAA history. Alabama’s 2017 senior class holds the NCAA record for most wins by a senior class with a 53-5 mark (.914).

FEWEST PASS ATTEMPTS: The Citadel’s two pass attempts today ties with Auburn (1949) and Tennessee (1960) for the fewest by an opponent in a single game in Alabama history.

DEFENSIVE NOTESNON-OFFENSIVE TDs IN THE SABAN ERA: Linebacker Anfernee Jennings’ 18-yard, third-quarter return for a touchdown off of junior Deionte Thompson’s forced fumble against The Citadel was Alabama’s 68th non-offensive touchdown of the Nick Saban era and its seventh this season.

TURNOVERS, TURNOVERS, TURNOVERS: Senior Anfernee Jennings’ third quarter recovery of redshirt junior Deionte Thompson’s forced fumble gives the Crimson Tide at least one forced turnover in 53 of its last 55 contests dating back to the start of the 2015 season. During the current run, the Crimson Tide has forced 92 turnovers (62 interceptions, 30 fumbles) and returned 22 of those miscues for touchdowns. The Tide has forced at least one turnover in 14 consecutive games.

OFFENSIVE NOTES500 YARDS IN TOTAL OFFENSE FOR THE 10TH TIME IN 2018: Alabama’s 561 yards in total offense against The Citadel marks the 10th time the Crimson Tide topped 500 yards this season and the 22nd time in the last 55 games dating to the start of the 2015 campaign.

TAGOVAILOA SETS NEW UA SINGLE-SEASON TOUCHDOWN PASSES RECORD: Tua Tagovailoa’s three touchdown passes against The Citadel gives the sophomore 31 scoring tosses this season, breaking the previous school record of 30 set by AJ McCarron in 2012.

TAGOVAILOA TIED FOR SECOND ON THE TIDE SINGLE SEASON TOUCHDOWN RESPONSIBILITY LIST: With his three touchdown passes and one rushing touchdown against The Citadel, Tua Tagovailoa is responsible for 35 touchdowns this season (31 passing/four rushing). The total moves him into a tie for second place with Blake Sims, who had 35 (28/7) in 2014. Jalen Hurts holds the single-season touchdown responsibility record with 36 (23/13) in 2016. Tagovailoa is sixth on the career touchdown responsibility list with 48 (42/6) in only 20 career games.

TAGOVAILOA NOW SIXTH ON TIDE SINGLE SEASON PASSING YARDAGE LIST: With 340 yards passing against The Citadel, Tua Tagovailoa has now thrown for 2,865 yards this season, which ranks No. 6 on the UA single-season passing yards list. AJ McCarron (2012) is fifth with 2,933 yards.

TAGOVAILOA FIRST HALF PASSING: In first half play through 11 games this season, Tua Tagovailoa has thrown for 2,204 yards and 26 touchdowns with one interception on 130-of-184 passing (70.7 percent) for an efficiency rating of 216.81.

TUA AT THE HELM: Sophomore Tua Tagovailoa has directed 88 drives as the Tide’s starting quarterback this season with 52 resulting in touchdowns (59.1 percent) and seven culminating in field goals for 59 total scoring drives (67.0 percent). In those drives, the Tide offense is 41-for-69 (59.4 percent) on third down conversions, accounting for 4,239 yards on 481 snaps for an average of 8.81 yards per play and 386 of the 491 points scored by the UA offense.

OPENING DRIVE TOUCHDOWNS: Jaylen Waddle’s 21-yard touchdown catch from Tua Tagovailoa against The Citadel was Alabama’s 10th opening-drive touchdown in 11 games this season.

SPECIAL TEAMS NOTESBULOVAS TIED FOR FIFTH ON UA SINGLE-SEASON PAT LIST: Redshirt freshman Joseph Bulovas’ four PATs against The Citadel gives the Mandeville, La., native 56 for the season, which is tied for fifth on the UA single-season PAT list with Andy Pappanastos (2017). Cade Foster is fourth with 60 in 2013. Jeremy Shelley is Alabama’s season leader with 69 conversions in 2012.
