Let's hire Pettway as the head coach in training and bring back Wimp for two years as a special instructor to direct the team. We all know that Pettway has the recruiting skills to be a great coach and knows the territory and already has a relationship with the top recruits with this being a fertile area the next few years. Wimp could teach him and give his the tools necessary to perfect himself as a head coach and Wimp would probably be receptive. Everyone would know where basketball is headed and when Pearl gets ready to leave that rathole across the state we would be totally in charge again.
Pettway is less of a gamble than White and Prohm and we know we get a coach with total basketball knowledge.
Is Pettway ready to be the head coach at Alabama today? Probably not, but he is just as ready as Prohm and White. Would Pettway bring some excitement back to Bama Basketball? I believe he would. Is this a good idea today? I doubt it, but it would be better than settling for a second tier coach from another low mid major program.
