...for the major programs looking to hire new head coaches now or after the season. There is always the lure of a hot coach at one of the group of 5 or 2nd-tier programs, but if I'm an LSU, UF, or USC type program I'd be very leery of guys without head coaching experience at a Power 5 program. I haven't done an extensive check so I'm sure there have been a few hires from these smaller programs recently that have done well after taking a Power 5 job, but the ones that come to mind....like Scott Frost, Fuentes, Herman, Strong, Diaz, Norvell, Sumlin, McElwain, etc....haven't exactly turned out to be homerun hires. Several like Harsin and Heupel who are newbies in the SEC haven't been in their job long enough. Frankly, it has become a roll of the die with most of these guys regardless of their previous job or coaching position. But I've seen too many group of 5/2nd tier hot coaches who became cold turkeys when given opportunities in the big-time.
