Every single game, the ratio of praise to criticism on the board is 80/20, with criticism rolling in at the 80% clip.
We play good on defense, and its "yeah, but the offense didn't play well"
We run the ball well, and its "yeah, but we need to get the ball to Ridley and ArDarius"
We throw the ball down field, and its "yeah, but we need to get the ball to Howard"
We try throwing the ball to all our weapons, and its "yeah, but Lane needs to set his ego aside and just run the ball"
Some even say it about Saban, "Sure he might be the best college coach of all time, yeah, but he is a horrible clock manager"
And some justify it saying that we shouldn't be satisfied, that they are just taking their cues from Saban. And that's a lie, or at least an ill-informed perception.
Saban, yes, talks about the things we need to improve, but he also talks at length about the things that go well. His "yeah, but" is in the opposite direction. We didn't play well on offense, yeah, but the defense was outstanding. We made mistakes, yeah, but we found a way to win. We didn't score for three quarters, yeah, but we kept them from scoring for four quarters.
If Saban talked to the team the way that we post on these boards, and in particularly minimizing the things the team does well in terms of competitive spirit and perseverance, we would become a losing team, one that is never rewarded for overcoming adversity, but instead, is blamed and shamed for having any adversity in the first place.
What we are watching unfold this season -- these 9 games -- is a team performing at a historic level. Only a tiny handful of teams in the past ten years would be sitting at 9-0 -- that's not me just saying it, it has been quantified by ESPN. We were on a scoring pace that outpaced any other team in Alabama history, and we have one of the best defenses of all time in front of us.
And we have, by my count, at least 132 negative posts this morning about our OC, about our place kicker, about out DBs, about our freshman QB, and it goes on and on.
We don't appreciate the wins. We don't savor them. We take them for granted. Saban even has a 24 hour rule for the team to enjoy wins -- hell, this board starts out pissed off at kickoff and never improves from there. If they wanted, the group that does the Meltdown thread each week could do one every single week on our WINS.
I can fell the "yeah, but" comments coming. Here's mine --
Many of you say that you are Alabama fans. Yeah, but you certainly don't post like it.
