Hey, guys. My name is Ben Jones. I'm the new hire to replace DC Reeves. Actually, I was at Warchant.com covering Florida State (Dec. 2013-June 2015) for Rivals before I landed here in Tuscaloosa, just like DC was. We never worked together in Tallahassee but DC is a friend, and I'm looking forward to continuing a lot of the work he started here.
Some background on me: I grew up mostly in Louisville, Ky., but bounced around a little before that while my dad was in the Navy. I went to college at the University of Kentucky (2007-11) and graduated with a journalism degree. While I was in college I was the sports editor of the Kentucky Kernel during my junior year (2009-10), the student paper there, and covered the football team in my junior and senior years. Most students wanted to cover basketball, but I've always loved football. That made me an outlier there, but I think I'll fit in here in Alabama.
I had summer internships at The (Memphis) Commercial Appeal, the (Minneapolis) Star Tribune and The Indianapolis Star. After graduation, I spent two years covering Kentucky football for CatsIllustrated.com, the Kentucky Rivals site, before eventually landing at Warchant. I moved here on Friday, and before interviewing for this job, had never been to Tuscaloosa. The Louisville native in me felt at home when I saw the river running on the north side of downtown and coal barges rolling up and down it.
If you live here you might see me out for a run around town or reading a book in a coffee shop. I tweet pictures of donuts sometimes (no, really). I'm frequently sarcastic. I couldn't be more excited for football season to start, and I'm happy to be here.
Questions? Comments? Complaints? Let's hear it. I'm getting through a bunch of paperwork here on my first day but I'll answer as many questions as I can.
