I realize we have as good a team as anyone in the country. BUT, does anyone have the trouble we do
inbounding the ball? for decades it seems this has been the worst part of Bama BB. My thought is have a taller guy throw it in . The guards don't seem to see the court. Again, I am not the coach but it sure is frustrating. I hope this doesn't cost us in a close game. RTR

I hate to do this because I could be completely wrong and I know someone might start spreading this around like it's gospel. But it has seem like for the better part of a decade, no matter who the HC is, Bama has problems with inbounding the ball against pressure.

The one constant is Antoine Pettway and I've wonder if he is the guy coaching this up in practices. But at the same time, it falls on whoever the HC is and no matter who we have had at that position, Bama can't come up with a decent inbound play, it's maddening at times.

Preach I have watched 8th graders run in bound plays that make me shake my head and wonder why Alabama refuses to move or cut or score on an inbound play. You are absolutely correct a taller player needs to throw the ball in every time!

Inbounds pass by Bama go back several previous coaches and it is a head scratcher given our history at how we seemly in pressure situations have to hold our breath.
Guess it is kinda like Bama’s defensive woes on third and long.

Richard Hendrix was on the radio call last night for Passink (had to be somewhere else) and he just said on The Next Round that he gives Alabama an F on baseline inbounds. Said we are wasting chances to steal points by not scoring off those.

There's a collective sigh when the ball is inbounded successfully, which is not good because it should be routine. Assign Miller to inbound the ball. He's tall and a good passer. Set some screens/picks, and cuts to the basket. Don't just stand there and hope the situation will resolve itself.

In the past it drove me crazy when we didn’t try to at least get an easy one on inbounds on the initial action. Why not try? The Warriors won last night on Poole just knowing what was going on and making the most simple read on the set. People say we don’t have inbound sets. But we are running things at times but they aren’t working. But I couldn’t care any less about that now. Just get the ball in!!!!
I think we have a few issues.
Our screens suck. We don’t screen the person.
We suck at setting screens up.
We don’t punish switches. It’s about angles of the screen and knowing how to seal.
And our inbounders are always our smallest guys. I’d love to get Miller the ball on the inbounds but if we can’t get it in, it doesn’t matter. I learned that coaching girls. It doesn’t matter what we do until we can get the ball in!!!!!
Everyone should lesser talented teams at some point, even better if it’s girls, where your best shooter is your best ball handler, who is also your best defender, who is also your best rebounder, who is also the only one that can make a pass.

To be fair not many teams run baseline plays to score the ball anymore. It’s a lost art. However, Oats has drawn up several this year where we got great looks off it and scored. We kept getting the ball at the same spot just off the right side of the backboard, basically in the corner. Tough spot to throw it in.

Did anybody see the inbounds play Calvin Sampson drew up at the end of their game against Temple? An absolute thing of beauty with the guy missing a 2 foot basket. I know the situation was different but still.

It has been going on for years, regardless of who the coach is. I just close my eyes now and hope for the best, much like I used to do in the pre Will Reichard days when our football team was lining up for a field goal or extra point.

I think he has plays that he saves for when we really need them and does not want to show them to a team like State. The play to end the half was a thing of beauty to get Dom open for the 3. I think you will continue to see us throw the ball to a tall player unless an easy score is there. I believe they want to run their offense and get an open 3. Just my 2 cents.

Yep! With the length and athleticism on this team, Oats should copy/steal that inbound play.

That 3 Welch hit was penetration and spacing.

I don’t disagree, but don’t you think it was a play.
It was a one simple ball screen, which we do 90% of the time. They didn’t switch it for some reason and they helped and Welch spaced up. It was bad defense really. I wouldn’t call it a play but you can.
