JD Davison

IMO, I don't see JD being a "one-n-done" unless he improves. Sure, he will make a couple of highlight plays, but overall, he needs work as far as decision making and developing a jumper. So far he hasn't proven to be a scoring threat.

I agree he shouldn’t be… but the draft has become very different over the last decade. He gone
Agreed. I'm ole school bb, so overall talent matters. Today if you have the correct number of tats...you're in!

Does anybody know what, if any, NIL endorsements he has?

At this point i believe it is just posters on this board popping off for various reasons why Davidson is a one and done.
To me he plays like a freshman coming from a small school that needs lots of fine tuning. He does have MoJo though.

I agree with this, but the NBA, unlike when I was a kid, drafts so much off future potential than a finished game. JD, with all his freshman rawness, has already shown more than Primo did all of last season, and he went 12th overall(though Primo looked like the much better potential outside shooter).

I agree, I have seen 3 mock drafts and in those drafts JD goes 11, 13 and 16 and those numbers have come off of watching him being very out of control and reckless with the basketball. I have to believe with more game experience he climbs the board because the cat can definitely play. As many in this thread have mentioned the NBA draft has become an overseas and off of potential draft and I really can’t speak of the talent in the league now because if there was an NBA game in my backyard I would not pull the blinds to watch.

ROLL TIDE!!!!

I agree. I, also, have not watched an NBA game in 20 years. I would rather mow my lawn, and I have a service that already does it every week.

He’s 10 games into his freshman campaign so to early to tell regardless. If you’re going based off talent, he’s a top 15 pick easy. If you’re going off potential, he’s top 15 easy. NBA teams draft based on potential, age, and talent. If you can get a 19 year with an unlimited ceiling with incredible athleticism, you do it. It is why Primo got drafted.

Yea the nba doesn’t mind taking Guys that need to develop. In fact many in the nba feel the nba game is better for development especially offensively with the game being more spread out. I’m literally repeating something I’ve heard Bc I really don’t know.

but I agree he has not played like a top nba pick so far, while I also can see the freakish athletic ability and extremely high ceiling as a basketball player, which is what scouts are looking for

unfortunately for us he is closer to his floor than ceiling. Especially as a scorer.

Yep, and the NBA took players from us that we never got to see even half way developed - Gerald Wallace, Josh Primo, and soon JD. It would have been nice to have them on the court for at least one year when they were closer to their ceiling than their utter floor.

I will add in with JD, all of his best minutes this year have been in clutch time. Probably his most positive attribute to date. Huge late against Gonzaga and Houston, as well as a few other games

Agreed! "...wouldn't pull the blinds to watch!" An instant classic. I was an avid NBA fan back in the Magic/Bird/Dr. J/ days, so I feel ya.

While I do not agree with this selection formula, I get it. The difference between Primo and JD, is being a scoring threat. He'll most likely get drafted if he chooses to leave early, so he needs to utilize his remaining time at the Capstone to improve his game overall.

The talent in the NBA has improved tremendously over the years. Do they always play hard in the regular season? no! If you can sniff an NBA roster your definitely one of the best ballers in the world. With the globalization of the sport of basketball it's extremely hard to make the league and hang around. Just take a look at the G-league so many talented guys that can't come close to making an NBA roster. The NBA by far has the best athletes in the world.

I'm going to agree to disagree.

I loved it back then as well. I hated the Lakers, but I loved Jamaal Wilkes and Michael Cooper, but my favorite team was the Hawks with John Drew, Eddie “The Auburn Convict” Johnson, Danny Roundfield, The Rhodes Scholar Tom McMillan and Tree Rollins. I also liked the “Bad Boys” Detroit Pistons team with Laimbeer, Mahon, Rodman, Salley and Isaiah. I hated when the SuperSonics were shipped out to OKC and man did the Lakers-Celtics have some battles or wha!

He’s got a lot of Russell Westbrook in him. Russell just an absolute freak athlete, averaged 3.4 ppg as a freshman and 12.7 as a sophomore before getting drafted. Never was a starter for ucla behind Darren Collison. Gets to nba and almost immediately become a star and is now a triple double machine. I think nba scouts look at that type of athlete and know if he’s a hard worker and stays healthy and out of trouble he will become a greats basketball player

Guess we’ll hear from Primo in a few years. He’s barely playing more than me. I get it they draft on potential and ceiling and all that but he was an average college guard coming off the bench. Sexton had it. Shariffe Cooper for the barn had it. Thise kids could take over games. JD is a hell of an athlete great effort and will be a stud. Just sucks the NBA wants to grab guys like this when they are still one or two years away. That’s why I have very little interest in the game after college. I want JD shooting the open threes. He drives 95% of the time. Turnovers have gotten better. He’s definitely a reason why people go. You can hear the buzz when he comes in. Hoping to see him expand his game. This team will go one of two ways from here. Winning is contagious and so is losing. I expect much better effort in SEC play but it shouldn’t have to come after an embarrassing loss to Davidson, a game Davidson controlled most of the way.

Agree- I hate the NBA. They have practically ruined college basketball with their approach. Primo and the team would be much better off if he was still in Tuscaloosa. And by age he is a true freshman.

I don’t blame the kids for taking the huge $, but $ has hurt the NFL, has all but ruined parity in baseball, and has really destroyed what college BB once was in the 80’s and early 90’s. The NBA is awful, imop, for the past two decades. I am a capitalist, but this is an instance where the $ has massively hurt it for all but a very few.

I hope you're right.

He’s not average or ok. He’s bad. At this point go ahead and take him NBA. I’ve seen some 5 star freshman this year. He ain’t close. Turnover machine who can’t shoot from the outside and gets lost on D. Sounds perfect for the NBA

Too many basketball players on defense for Davison. He’s used to playing against air like most “5 star” players in state of Alabama high school basketball. Then to have that pussy ass Afro. It’s not his fault he was overrated. He may improve with more experience. Pulling for him, just awful tonight.

I really thought we did a lot of things better than we normally do. We could have shot below our averages(which aren’t particularly good to begin with) and won tonight. Worst shooting performance I’ve seen

it is getting to the point where it will be a big risk to take jd at this point.

In the best interest of the team let the NBA come calling. Find an upper class point from the portal. Just an average player will be a net gain.

Actually think I agree. I won’t be mad if JD comes back, but I’ve come to realize most guys don’t just drastically improve over a summer like fans think they will from one year to the next. Improvement for JD will happen piece by piece over a 5-7 year span. He may have a little better handles and maybe a little more understanding of the game if he came back but he’s not going to suddenly be the best player in the sec. He has a long way to go in every skill
