This could be start of a "4" eight team super conferences and that could lead to the champion of each having an automatic playoff birth.
If the Big 12 ends, so will the Oklahoma and Texas partnership. Oklahoma and Ok St could jump over to SEC causing a reshuffle of the divisions, by having Bama and AU to the east and Missouri to the west.
West
1. LSU
2. Ole Miss
3. MSU
4. Arkansas
5. Missouri
6. Texas A&M
7. Oklaoma
8. Ok State
East
1. Florida
2. Tenn
3. Georgia
4. SC
5. Kentucky
6. Vandy
7. AU
8. Alabama
Texas would jump to the PAC 12 along with Texas Tech, Baylor and TCU. This would create a PAC 16 with East and West divisions
West: Texas, TCU, Baylor, Texas Tech, Arizona, ASU, Utah & Colorado
East: Washington, WSU, Stanford, CAL, Oregon, OSU, USC & UCLA
The ACC allows them to do away with the Atlantic / Coastal thing and go with a North / South system by adding West Virginia and putting pressure on Notre Dame to join as a full time member. The North group could also help conveince ND to come aboard, with some famialir rivals and an easier path to the conf championship.
North: ND, Boston Coll, Syracuse, Pitt, VT, Virginia, Lousiville, West Virginia
South: FSU, Miami, G Tech, N Carolina, Duke, Wake, NC St, Clemson
This leaves the Big Ten and this finally gives the conference a chance to correct their name to the BIG or Big 16. I can see the BIG conference adding Kansas from the dead B12, because of its basketball history and as a natural location rival for the west teams. Keeping with the basketball theory here, they add UCONN to the east division. This does little for football as far as strength goes but that may be what they are looking for. A name with basketball success that will also get Mich & OSU another easy victory.
Using these examples, that would leave K State and Iowa St joining the Mountain West
