Okay! After we lost to Western Kentucky, who had Alabama penciled in at 7-0 in the SEC at this point in time. I will be the first to answer honestly. I thought we would probably be 2-5 at this point in the season. We might only go 7-11 in Conference Play, but at least we know we will be at least 7. The turn a round for this team has been amazing.

Basketball teams are hard to predict simply because a well-coached team may get dirty early in the season and gel about tournament time. Others may keep losing the rest of the season. Teams are built in the winter. I expected to be in the middle of the conference somewhere and maybe win 1 or 2 rounds of the tournament.

The team last year was a couple of players away from being as good as this years team. I had them in the top 6 of the sec coming into the season, but this kind of start was no where in my mind. I knew this team had the pieces to make really good team this year, hopefully it keeps going.

shit, i knew it all the time.

I was sure after that wku loss that we'd struggle to get through Jan with a .500 record in league play and something like 3-6 was going to be very possible. There was an immediate thought of losses to UK twice, UT, LSU, and probably AU with hopes of at least one upset in those 5 games and a hope to not lose at home to Miss, Ark and MSU and maybe upset UF in Coleman.

The amazing part isn't just that its a 7-0 start, its that 4 of the wins have come @UT, @AU, @UK, and @LSU. Even before the season I would have hoped for a 2/2 split in those 4. After wku 0-4 seemed a sure thing.

And it wasn't just that we lost to wku its that we didn't look good at all in basically every game before ETSU.

I knew they were better than 3 and 3 but not this. Oats is getting buy in ie. Petty. System is great, entertaining, player and recruit friendly.

its crazy enough that we have went on a 8 game winning streak but its the way we are beating teams down and making them quit.

after the WKU game, I was hoping for a winning record in the SEC, 10-8 and then hoping to get in the tourney.
I will say OP, I knew we didn't have the chemistry the first few games that we could develop over time.
That has proven itself.

i will also say this--i do not know what W KY has done since, but they have a good team. they had a good big man that we could not handle. we did not shoot well and could not get any thing done around the basket with their big guy inside.

we could most likely handle the now, but they are pretty damn good

After WKU, I said to my son “here we go again”. Boy was I wrong, thankfully! What we have seen here is coaching at its best. Effort and complete faith in your coach is a tough thing to find. I watched Coach closely during the early season struggles. I firmly believe he could have lost this team, which makes the current results even more impressive. Adversity is an undefeated judge of character.

I followed all the new additions to this team in the off-season ridiculously close. Watched every video, read every tweet or article about every new player we had coming in. You could see plain as day that Oats upgraded the roster with a ton of talent. I was actually feeling the exact opposite of most fans on here. I was convinced we’d be damn good. The first few games during the Maui invitational was really hard for me to watch. I just didn’t understand why we were playing so poorly and inconsistently. Took a step back and tried to take into account the crazy offseason and lack of scrimmage games and all the new guys needing to adjust and gel with each other. All that being said, I did not see a 7-0 conference record, 20 point win at Rupp and huge blowouts of Arkansas and LSU. These guys have exceeded even my super high expectations for them. Oats is one hell of a coach with an exciting brand of basketball that guys want to play in and every single one of the guys on the roster bought in to what Oats and staff are selling them. I’m so pumped for the future of the program. Recruiting is probably going to go to an even higher level too.

They looked bad against WKU for one reason. Herb Jones had a bad day and compounded it by driving the hole all game long and clanking shot after shot. The rest of the team was pretty much standing around watching Herb clank shots. This team really came together when the SEC schedule started and Jones stayed in foul trouble and the team got to play. Pettys suspension notwithstanding, I think the team turned it around when herb Jones bought in. JMO

I had them started out 1-5 in the SEC after the WKU game lol.
