Lingo question....

I'm going to date myself here but that's ok. I can remember when if you blocked someone's shot it was called mugging them. Anyway, I know lingo comes and goes especially in sports, but,...what is length? All the announcers now talk about Alabama's length. Does that mean we have tall players? Does it mean they have long arms? Exactly what is length?

Although I've never heard an exact definition of it I would describe it as the total amount of space that a player occupies from the ground to the sky in all planes (left, right, up, down, sideways, etc.)
