Research from public databases after learning we will play Michigan. Apologies if too much detail.
Things I learned:
# of Michigan 3 Stars Starters: Offense 5 Defense 4 + one unranked
How good is Michigan highly rated defense? Michigan has in general played weak offenses. However, they have excuted so maybe not #1 defense but probably good.
Age and experience:
On Offense all startersexcept QB and one tight end is a GR or Senior.
On Defense 7 starters are GR or Seniors.
Michigan players have been in the program a long time. Older, highly experienced team.
Speed in the positions it counts: I expected to believe the narrative that they are a slow Big 10 team. They are not. Not a real fast team but not slow.
RB Corum the key to their offense has 4.5 speed.
WR one with 4.4 speed and one with 4.5. Not blazing fast but decent speed
LBs both have 4.5 speed
Safeties 4.4 and 4.5
Corners both about 4.5
OL size: while averaging 305-320 their size is good but not elite as I expected for a Michigan OL.
Offense
Run heavy : This season---- Pass 300 times, Run ~ 550 times
QB McCarthy 4* 4.5 , very experienced. He does not rush very often. Only 146 total yards rushing for the year. Excellent down field long pass yards/attempt but against better defenses average.
Allowed 18 sacks. Not good QB protection
RB Corum 3* 4.5 the key to their offense. Most TDs of any back in College Football. NFL round 3,4
Offensive line 305-320
C Nugent 3* 305
LT Henderson 3* 315
RT Barnhart 4* 316
RG Zinter 4* 322 Round 3,4
LG Kegan 4* 310
WR Wilson 3* 4.4 their fastest player NFL round 3-4
Johnson 4* 4.5 NFL round 5,6
LTE Barner 3* 6' 6 250
RTE Colsten 4* 6' 5 245
Defense
LB Edge Harrell 3* 240
McGregor 4* 270
DT Graham 4* 315 Soph
Jenkins 3* 305 NFL first or second round
LB Barrett 4.5 240
Colson 4.55 247 NFL first round or second round
Nickel Sainrstill 3* 175
Safety Paige 4* 4.5 185
Moore 3* 4.4 NFL first or second round
Corners Wallace unranked 4.56 190
Johnson 5* 4.5 200 NFL 1st Round
Punter avg about 45 yards, often in cold weather so maybe 50 at Rose Bowl?
Field Goal Kicker 16/18 with long of 50 so good kicker. Was 3 of 3 under pressure vs. Ohio State
*** Ourlands NFL Scouting Services: I am not familiar with this service but this is the source of my draft position remarks for their player.
