The epidemic called the transfer portal is going to change college basketball, as we know college basketball.
I foresee a day in the near future when a major college will have to go a year without fielding a team, because all of it's players entered the transfer portal and go to other programs because of a coaching matter.
My prediction is that the transfer portal will be an excuse for schools slacking on recruiting evaluation. Three star recruits will now sign with schools near their desired destination and then after proving themselves they will immediately transfer to a name school, using the one time transfer provision. Four stars will now sign with a school where they think they can start and then after a year or two they will transfer to the Duke's, North Carolina's, Kansas and others of equal stature.
The unlimited transfer portal will destroy college basketball as we know it.
Why would the number two player at Missouri make a lateral transfer to LSU? I can understand a player transferring from a one bid conference team to a major conference school, but why does a kid from the inner city of Chicago, suddenly decide that he is better off being in Baton Rouge than Columbia, Mo.? I can guarantee you he is not transferring for academic reasons, location to home, lack of playing time and/or to play for a rising program, as LSU is losing their big three players. When something makes no sense it usually makes no sense.
