Twelve teams will make the playoffs, but are there twelve deserving teams? One of the problems with this world is that everyone wants a participation trophy. We have forty or so Bowl games, so if you have a winning record you get a reward of a bowl game. Exactly where is the reward for excellence? Let's be realistic. Who thinks that we should have twelve teams in the playoffs, when there are probably only 7 that have a realistic chance of winning the championship? I am as big an Alabama fan, as anyone on this board and I will be there if Bama gets into the playoffs; however, to be selected to participate, we are getting a participation trophy. By the same token, Iowa State, Arizona State, SMU, Clemson, Boise State, and Indiana are not worthy of being an NCAA championship competitor and I have doubts about Tennessee, Notre Dame, Georgia and Penn State. The final game will probably be decided between Texas, Oregon and tOSU and in reality if it was the four best teams in the playoffs, I would have trouble naming the fourth.

I would submit that there are seven SEC teams that would have made it through Notre Dame, Indiana, Boise State's, Miami and SMU's schedule with no more than one loss. I looked at the proposed bracket, as it stands today, and if Alabama faces Notre Dame, the winner has a cupcake game the New Years Week.

In short, if Alabama gets into the playoffs Sunday, I will be thrilled; however, I in no way believe we earned the right to play for the National Title. I am against participation Trophies.
