My speculation based on info out there

Marshall is buying time to see what happens with Texas.
It's being reported that the number one choice for Texas is Shaka. A decision will come soon for Shaka IMO and if he stays Texas is likely to move to Marshall. Marshall has nothing to lose by waiting a couple of days and it looks like Bama is willing to wait a couple of days.
