simply MY views/opinions ...they are not the "real views" (G)
Depending on your view of good football it was either a great/beautiful game or an ugly game. Being an old fart it was a great game for me. It was the most physical game I have watched this year. jmo but I don't think we will face a more physical team this year than LSU. We will not face a better defense.
I will choose to look at our strengths first.
Defense I do not think this our best defense under CNS, I remember OM and Uark, but I do think it is the fastest defense CNS has had. Take away the lost yards by the QB we gave up 48 yards on 21 carries. We will not face a better back than LF. We lose an AA at safety and we replace him and shut out LSU. The front 7 PROVED they can stand up to a strong running game ... at some spots we may be a bit lighter but Williams and Anderson proved they can control the run and rush the passer. The LB's proved speed kills. The secondary play well, the one long completion, I thought could have been called offensive interference. Ettling is not a great QB but other than Watson there is not great one left on the schedule or who will make the playoffs.
Areas of opportunity ... I would not call them weaknesses ..
Kicking game ... We need Adam to get on a roll. That being said there was a lot of pressure on the clinching field goal and though a short attempt the angle on that kick is TOUGH. Short fields in the college game are MUCH tougher than in the NFL because of the angles. I will not be surprised if we see others taking a shot at returning punts .. we looked shaky last night.
Offense ..Obvious Bo had his best game ... more impressed with his blocking than his running. Love to see him used in the passing game. LSU sold out against the run and their front 7 was the best we will see. I posted on here a few weeks ago I thought the best runs for Jalen would be a QB draws ... I just think he is a much better runner when going north and south. I saw 3 or 4 passes last night which convinced me Jalen can become a good passing QB but also enough to tell me that will not be this year. I think we will see bigger leaps forward in the passing game by him than any QB we have had under CNS. I am not saying he will ever be AJ in the pocket just that if AJ finished at a 10 (not saying he was a 10) he started at a 7 ... with Jalen if he finishes at a 10 he will imo have started at a 4. jmo but we need to take most of the behind the line or at the LOS passes and move them to the other side of the LOS. We must stop the lack of discipline penalties ... either of the 2 late offsides penalties on the OL could have cost us the game. We had a WR jump and a WR not line up correctly causing the TE to be called for being downfield.
The SEC landscape ... it comes down to us vs AU ... I have not watched 5 minutes of AU football .. good news is in 3 weeks I will watch 60 minutes. I did take a look at their stats yesterday ... and the Vandy QB had a career day ... was he just on or is the AU pass defense ... he had over 200 yards passing against AU less than 100 vs UF. I posted on here I still thought UT would represent the east .. UF is not any good. Them being ranked in the top 10 was based on one loss and people did not look at who they had played.
The National landscape ... I do not think there is a great team in the nation. I think today Bama, Clemson, OSU, Michigan, Washington, Louisville, Wisconsin and AU all have a chance. If you told me I had to take one team I would pick BAMA if you told me I could have ANY one team or the field I would take the field.
If I was choosing the 4 best teams in the nation today I would select Michigan, Ohio State, Clemson and BAMA .... not ranked in order. (G)
I would like to see 2 teams get in from one conference and the committee to point at Washington and say Rutgers, Idaho, and Portland State and say "seriously" that was your OOC schedule. OSU and Michigan play in a much better conference and played a better OOC schedule ..
Just MY THOUGHTS ... not saying they are right or wrong.
