We shall see how this works out. I’m afraid we won’t have enough bodies. If this is the case, not sure why Holt and Gary don’t play more.
May have something to do with the people he’s playing with. He isn’t getting many minutes. But it sure does seem like he’s still making hustle plays every time he’s out there.Idk what it is with Gary but he doesn’t play as hard this year as he did last year
I would bet injuries. Love his game when he plays with aggression but he gets beat upIdk what it is with Gary but he doesn’t play as hard this year as he did last year
Totally agree. You're the coach. You control the playing time. His constantly dogging the players is growing old.May have something to do with the people he’s playing with. He isn’t getting many minutes. But it sure does seem like he’s still making hustle plays every time he’s out there.
And is it necessary to constantly throw the kids under the bus? You can do exactly what he said without telling the world.
Could not agree more. I get sick of hearing from the head coach who is making millions that the kids aren't trying or executing.....May have something to do with the people he’s playing with. Part of it offensively is we don’t have a half court offense, especially for this group. Our half court offense is 100% about somebody beating their defender off the dribble and scoring or forcing help and somebody making an open 3. Our offensive efficiency numbers are high, or so people say. I’m not sure how. I guess they don’t count turnovers and such into that.I just feel like we don't have the guys that can play traditional defense without fouling. They're not all that good at shuffling and drawing charges.
What we have is athletic guys who can play make up defense (steals and blocks) and are good at shooting on the run.
Everything we do good is fast and we aren't that good at anything in a slow traditional half court offense or defense.
Offense is not the problem. We score plenty even when we aren’t shooting well. The problem is the opposing team also scores almost every possessionPart of it offensively is we don’t have a half court offense, especially for this group. I’ve always thought we gamble too much on d. It just seems like pressure is at the top of the list and not containing the dribbler.
And playing fast may help this group but it kills them too. They make some bone head turnovers while doing it. And regardless of what anybody says, the more possessions you have bc you shoot fast, the more possessions you play D. Which means there’s. A higher chance for the opposing team to score more too.
When you take quick shots, and sometimes bad ones, it will hurt the defense in the long run. Turn it over, hurts the defense. Missing 20+ threes a game turns into long rebound run outs some. ALWAYS have two guys in the corners offense and a big in the dunkers spots, then a guy driving, only one guy left at best to be getting back. All of those are offensive things that have a negative effect on defense. We are going to score. We shoot the ball fast and we shoot a lot.Offense is not the problem. Good point on turnovers. That certainly is an aspect of the offense that puts more pressure on the defense. Unfortunately, the main culprits there are also the biggest reasons for our defensive woes. When you take quick shots, and sometimes bad ones, it will hurt the defense in the long run. Regardless of what the biggest issues are, they pretty much are what they are right now. If he only plays guys that are going to guard and that excludes JQ, JD, etc, then it’ll be tough to score. And if we still shoot fast and play the same offense, those guys will get tied of guarding too.Good point on turnovers. Would love to see one of the players come out say "Maybe if coach knew how to call a timeout we wouldn't put ourselves behind so much we can't come back."Totally agree. You're the coach. You control the playing time. His constantly dogging the players is growing old.
Agree. Most people point to our 3 point shooting (ranked 306th) as the biggest concern for this team. I say our defense (ranked 319th) is a bigger issue. At least 7 or 8 times this year we've scored 75 plus points and lost. You score that many points in a game you should win.Offense is not the problem. We score plenty even when we aren’t shooting well. The problem is the opposing team also scores almost every possession
Just my opinion, but even though Q isn’t a great defender, he’s played hard and hung in there pretty well defensively this season. I cannot say the same for JDRegardless of what the biggest issues are, they pretty much are what they are right now.
