And l do think they are going to start falling by the way, that will solve most of our other problems. Our inside game and getting back on defense will fall into place once our open shots start falling. We have some good shooters and have been getting some open shots, but seems like the whole team has gone cold shooting.

Clowney has been in a ridiculous slump and he is a much better shooter than that.

Seems like they hurried some shots from behind the arc and took some contended shots. Hard to score doing that.
Tuesdaynight will be a good barometer of where we are. Vandy can shoot the ball so our defense will need to regroup as well. Hope they bring that energy back.

l believe that Charles B is a very good rim protector until he gets in foul trouble. Then he seems to start playing a little soft.

So many of his fouls are just unnecessary fouls. It seems like he picks up at least 1 every game on an illegal screen 30 feet from the basket, I just don’t understand that. I realize that many times it can be blamed on the guard/forward for trying to move before the screen is set, but when he throws that big elbow out there that will be a foul every time.

ROLL TIDE!!!!

Their progression is as expected. Not the first bunch of talented true freshman who started to belive their press clippings. Also wearing down a little after a long season of battling more senior players who have spent more time in the weight room. This slump will prepare them for the final four! Watch!!!

He has to be challenging Moussa Gueye for the school record for illegal screens. I don't know how many times this season I've just shaken my head and said "Really, Chuck? Why in the heck did you just do that"? He has to play smarter.

Groves in the OU game got away with basically being a football OL on the court. On his screens he pushed off hard as he popped out to set, he used hands a lot, he had his leg stuck out on practically every screen, and when the guy with the ball really hugged him on the screen Groves was able to briefly grab and hold the defender. I think he got called once for something related to his screens. He should have been fouled out by halftime. Meanwhile Bediako can stand still and wait for the defender to clear before moving and an official will decide it was illegal somehow.

Some have said the guards at OU killed us and they scored a lot of points, but it helped a ton that their screens were so effective with the OL they had out there blocking for them. Our guys just aren't strong enough to fight through such.

I don't know enough about the technical/mechanical aspects of shooting to say much here but to me Clowney has gotten into a bad habit of rushing to shoot even when he isn't squared up to the goal. A few times its even looked like he was almost shooting it sideways as he was trying to turn around and shoot at the same time. So it looks more like he's throwing the ball at the rim instead of shooting it.

Of all the freshman he seems to have hit the wall harder. Maybe it was going from off the radar to 1st round pick to maybe working into a lottery pick. So he's thinking about it instead of just playing.

IMO Sears going cold has hurt us more than anything. He had a game or two where it was like he couldn't miss and now he's something awful like 4 for his last 30 3 point shots.

Yesterday I had one of those barn fans that suddenly know it all about basketball imply that the law of averages is just correcting a bunch of 30% at best shooters that were shooting far better than they really should be shooting. It's just happening all at once against Bama.

He has played bad the last few games. Start Pringle and see how Alabama plays and Charles may play smarter and make more shots inside with a some bench time.

IMO, Oats should have the players work on developing a mid-range shot as an alternative for when the 3s aren't falling. I have been watching other teams and they have a lot of players that are good mid-range shooters. They drive the lane and have three options:
1. take it to the basket
2. kick it out to the perimeter
3. stop & pop
Our players only exercise options 1 & 2.
#1 often ends with a charging foul, not finishing at the rim, or a blocked shot.

Actually l kinda agree with you on this. l know its not Coach Oates style and we are 18-3, but folks are running us off the 3-point line and guarding us at the hole. lt would not hurt us to have another option, but l'm not gonna try to tell Coach Oates how to coach the team. lf you hear he is gonna be on this board let me know and l will delete this post. lol

A blind hog will find an acorn every once in awhile. We played one hell of a game in all aspects. Gotta keep it up now.

ln the words of Coach Wimp-- lt don't matter how good you were last game or how good you're gonna be next game. All that matters is how good you are this game.
