I have read through several of the posts about our QB race this year and like everyone else I am interested in seeing who comes out on top.
One theory I have not seen (maybe I missed it) is this one...
I have a feeling that the staff really likes Barnett. I am sure Kiffin does since that is one of the reasons Barnett is here, but like many of you although he is very talented I don't have confidence that Saban wants to go with him this year. I think Saban feels like we have the defense, punter and running game to control field position and possessions to win this year.
That said, many think that Cornwell has outperformed Coker, and maybe he has, but if so, that causes a problem. If he wins the job and plays well enough as a game manager QB this year and we win with him then what would that mean for Barnett next year?
How do you replace a successful QB with a redshirt freshman? Especially when that QB still has years left on campus too?
What if Kiffin leaves next year? Which is probably a better than 50/50 proposition. Does Barnett leave too? Do we take a chance that the best QB prospect we have had here in a long time never plays a down for Alabama?
