I don’t think he was overly impressed with Alabama. He knew how to win and it seems he really thought they had a really good chance.
I’d like to hear him talk more about what he brought back with him from overseas, like his half court offense. We need to improve our half court offense too.

Pitino will have Iona in final 4 in two years probably. Sounds like he will bring some European flavor to the game.

I wasnt impressed either however, most games, I’m very impressed. I was impressed with the last few minutes of the game when Reese hit the first three.

He said a lot of things it takes to beat us and if you don’t do all of those then you’ll lose. I don’t think it was that he wasn’t impressed, just the sound of confident coach. We only shot 16 threes and missed a ton of layups and free throws, and still won by 13.

Missing layups isn’t out of the norm. And if he can take that group and take the 3 away, then there are better teams coming that will be able to do the same. I’d say you lean on the optimistic side of things in basketball.
Coaches don’t talk about things like that if they are just impressed. They talk about the things you did/do well. They talk about specific players.
This is a coach that was impressed.

I thought Iona competed very well from what I saw, no need to undersell his kids. They played a great game.

He undersold his kids the entire interview. He constantly talked about the better players they have coming in and such.

Pitino can coach.

he is not my favorite character coach out there...
I enjoyed Bama beating them and how hard the IONA tested our team.

I think this game was exactly what Bama needed to start the tournament.

The UNLV teams under Tarkanian played to dominate their opponents every second. His great teams with the 3 point shot would have been invincible. This team reminds me of Stallings coaching strategy.....play three quarters with a goal of being in a position to win in the 4th quarter. We need 40 minutes of Hell out there. We have improved by leaps and bounds this year. it will get better every year. Coach O has us way ahead of schedule.

Love that we have beaten Willy FBI Wade and Ricky P in back to back games. Pitino is a sore loser that was exiled to Euro ball for being a cheater. He says it's not about him at a few points in this interview, but comes off as being bitter at Louisville and tries to make it seem like his troubles and unethical decisions are someone else's fault. Pretty sad that he also blames his kids for not having enough talent. He's lucky that Petty and others had an off game or this would have been a 25+ point blowout. The guy is a hell of a coach, but he's unethical. Nice to send him packing.
