Back in the 1950’s and 60’s when a 12 day horse and buggy ride off to college was the norm. Students went off to school to get an education and play football. Even into to 70s-80s-90s there was pride in school colors and it was what it was.
But since Saban came to Bama and started putting players in the first round of the draft, others wanted that on their resume. Once Saban stepped away, a lot of players panic and worry about their future and look for a way to showcase their talent. Whether that may be they were offered more money, a better QB, a better team (in their opinion) whatever it is, they have the right in today’s game to be a free agent. So for all of the old timers on here looking for “Bama Pride” in players. There’s no such thing and there hasn’t been since 2008.. it’s been an NFL factory of very few players from the State of Alabama.
You can blame the fans, Vegas, Conferences , and TV contracts for turning this game into a money grab. I for one like it better, but agree it does need to be adjusted and capped. But ending it will only allow UGA to go on a Dynasty run that will make Bama’s take a back seat.
