GENERAL NOTES
GAME CAPTAINS:
Alabama’s captains for tonight’s game with Mississippi State are Mac Jones, Joshua McMillon and Patrick Surtain II. McMillon went to midfield for the coin toss.

FIRST TIME STARTERS: The Crimson Tide had one student-athlete make his first career start in tonight’s contest with Mississippi State as defensive back Brian Branch got the nod. Branch joins a collection of 12 players that have made their first career start this season. That group of 12 includes: Slade Bolden and Charlie Scott (Tennessee); DeMarcco Hellams (Georgia); Christopher Allen and John Metchie III (Ole Miss); and Chase Allen, Will Anderson Jr., Emil Ekiyor Jr., Sam Johnson, Malachi Moore, Carl Tucker and Daniel Wright (Missouri).

FIRST TIME PLAYERS: Alabama freshman wideout Thaiu Jones-Bell, redshirt freshman defensive back DJ Douglas, freshman defensive lineman Jah-Marien Latham and junior defensive back Ronald Williams Jr. join a group of 19 Crimson Tide players who have earned their first career playing time this season including freshmen Chase Allen (PK), Will Anderson Jr. (LB), Javon Baker (WR), Brian Branch (DB), Jamil Burroughs (DL), Javion Cohen (OL), Traeshon Holden (WR), Sam Johnson (P), Demouy Kennedy (LB), Jase McClellan (RB), Malachi Moore (DB), Drew Sanders (LB), Trey Sanders (RB), Tim Smith (DL), Roydell Williams (RB) and Bryce Young (QB), along with seniors Joshua Lanier (WR), Charlie Scott (P) and Carl Tucker (TE).

SABAN’S HOME RECORD: Alabama head coach Nick Saban is 145-20 (.879) in home games during his collegiate head coaching career. He owns an advantage at every stop he has made as a college head coach, including an 86-8 (.915) mark while at UA. Following tonight’s 41-0 win over Mississippi State, Saban has won 56 of his last 59 contests at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

OCTOBER DOMINANCE UNDER SABAN: Alabama head coach Nick Saban has been dominant in the month of October during his time in Tuscaloosa. Saban has compiled a 49-2 (.961) mark with the only two losses coming on the road during that time. His first loss came in 2010 at South Carolina with the only other loss being a 2014 loss at Ole Miss. For his career, Saban is 76-17 (.817) including a 3-1 mark at Toledo, a 12-8 record at Michigan State and a 12-6 stretch at LSU in addition to his time with the Crimson Tide.

HALLOWEEN GAMES: Following tonight’s win over Mississippi State, Alabama holds a 13-2 record on the holiday and extended its winning streak to eight in games played on Oct. 31. Alabama’s last Halloween game prior to this evening came in 1998 with the Crimson Tide downing Southern Miss, 30-20, in Tuscaloosa. The Tide’s most frequent opponent on Oct. 31 is Mississippi State for a total of seven times. Alabama is a perfect 7-0 against State on the holiday.

SABAN ON HALLOWEEN: Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban coached his second career Halloween matchup as either a collegiate or NFL head coach. Saban’s only other Halloween game came at Michigan State in 1998 as the Spartans dominated Northwestern, 29-5. This evening’s pairing with Mississippi State is also Saban’s 69th birthday.

UNRANKED, NO PROBLEM UNDER SABAN: With its 41-0 win over Mississippi State, Alabama has defeated 95 consecutive unranked teams under head coach Nick Saban, the longest streak in FBS history. The current streak began with a win over Colorado on December 30, 2007 in the Independence Bowl. The previous record was 72 games, shared by Miami (Fla.) (1984-95) and Florida (1989-2000). Over the 95-game stretch, only Ohio State has single-digit losses to unranked opponents with nine. Under Saban, Alabama holds a 99-3 (.971) (95-3, .969 after vacations) mark against unranked opponents.

NON-OFFENSIVE TOUCHDOWNS IN THE SABAN ERA: Patrick Surtain II’s 25-yard interception return for a score late in the fourth quarter against Mississippi State marked Alabama’s 78th non-offensive touchdown of the Nick Saban era and the third in 2020. Alabama totaled seven non-offensive scores in both 2019 and 2018 and recorded a single-season record 15 in 2016, which led the Football Bowl Subdivision and was the most in a season by any FBS team in the last 20 years. Alabama scored a non-offensive touchdown in 10 consecutive games dating from to the CFP Semifinal vs. Michigan State on Dec. 31, 2015, to the Texas A&M game on Oct. 22, 2016, and had 14 non-offensive touchdowns in that span – four interceptions, four punt returns, five fumble recoveries and a kickoff return.

OFFENSIVE NOTES
35-OR-MORE IN 19 STRAIGHT:
The Crimson Tide scored 41 points in tonight’s game against Mississippi State. That total marked the 19th straight game that Alabama’s offense has scored 35-or-more points, which is the longest streak in major-college football history. Oregon scored at least 35 points in 15 consecutive games from Nov. 5, 2011 through a Nov. 17, 2012 loss to Stanford by a score of 17-14. Alabama’s last game of not posting 35-or-more points came in the Tide’s 44-16 loss to Clemson in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game on Jan. 7, 2019.

STACKING UP 100s: DeVonta Smith eclipsed the 100-yard plateau in the first half of tonight’s game. Alabama’s explosive offense has produced nine individual 100-plus yard receiving performances through five and a half games this season, including at least one 100-plus yard receiver in every game. The Crimson Tide has also had multiple players in the same game over the 100-yard mark in three of six contests so far. For perspective, Alabama’s offense produced 11 100-plus yard efforts through 13 games last season and did so 13 times in 15 games during 2018.

FIRST-HALF 100s: DeVonta Smith recorded 159 yards receiving in the first half of this evening’s contest with Mississippi State. With the senior’s 159-yard half, Crimson Tide wideouts have totaled 100-plus yards in the first half on nine occasions in UA’s last 19 games, including the first three games to start the year and four of six contests overall in 2020.

SCORING STREAK CONTINUES: Alabama extended its school record for consecutive games with a score to 261 thanks to Will Reichard’s field goal from 40 yards out on the Tide’s first drive of the night. The Crimson Tide was last held off the scoreboard in a 9-0 loss to Auburn on Nov. 18, 2000. Entering this even, Alabama owned a 202-55 (.786) record over the course of the current streak.

SMITTY OVER 200 FOR THE SECOND TIME: DeVonta Smith finished tonight’s game with 203 receiving yards for the second 200-plus yard performance of his Crimson Tide career. The 200-plus yard performance is also the 10th instance in program history. Smith went for a program-record 274 yards against Ole Miss last season on Sept. 28.

TDs KEEP COMING FOR SMITH: Senior wide receiver DeVonta Smith finished tonight’s game with four receiving touchdowns to rank second all-time for single-game touchdown receptions. He trails his own program-high total of five against Ole Miss in that Sept. 28 game from a year ago.

SMITH REWRITING ALABAMA RECORD BOOKS: Wide receiver DeVonta Smith has totaled 174 catches for 2,868 yards and 31 touchdowns while averaging 16.5 yards per grab. His career totals all rank him in the top-five for each receiving category.

HARRIS MOVING UP THE CHARTS: Najee Harris carried 21 times for 119 yards in tonight’s game. Following his output against the Bulldogs, Harris has totaled 3,091 rushing yards and 34 touchdowns for his career. He now ranks eighth in career rushing yards and is tied with Johnny Musso (1969-71) for the sixth most career rushing touchdowns in Alabama history.

DEFENSIVE NOTES
PITCHING THE SHUTOUT:
Alabama’s shutout effort against Mississippi State in this evening’s matchup was the Crimson Tide defense’s first shutout since the Nov. 10, 2018 game that was also against the Bulldogs. That game resulted in a 24-0 Alabama win over State.

LIMITING THE BULLDOGS: With tonight’s 41-0 win over Mississippi State, Alabama has now outscored the Bulldogs 103-7 over the last three meetings, including two shutouts.

TURNOVERS, TURNOVERS, TURNOVERS: Dylan Moses picked off a Mississippi State pass in the third quarter of tonight’s game. With the pick, the Crimson Tide has forced at least one turnover in 72 of its last 78 contests dating back to the start of the 2015 season. During the current run, the Crimson Tide has forced 131 turnovers (86 interceptions, 45 fumbles) and returned 28 of those miscues for touchdowns.

STINGY FIRST-HALF DEFENSE: The Alabama defense limited Mississippi State to only 38 yards of offense through the first half. That total is the fewest yards allowed in the first half by a UA defense since the 2016 team limited Auburn to only 31 yards on Nov. 26. The Crimson Tide has also outgained the Bulldogs by 299 yards through two halves of play.

HOLDING OPPONENTS UNDER 300: The Crimson Tide defense held Mississippi State to 200 yards of total offense in Alabama’s 41-0 victory over the Bulldogs, marking the 113th time in 186 games (60.8 percent) under head coach Nick Saban that the Tide has held an opponent to less than 300 yards of total offense. The Tide has limited 25 of its last 48 opponents below 300 yards, dating back to the start of the 2017 campaign.

SPECIAL TEAMS NOTES
PERFECT SO FAR FOR REICHARD:
Alabama placekicker Will Reichard is currently perfect on all kicking attempts during the 2020 season. The sophomore is 45-for-45 overall, including 8-of-8 on field goals to go with 37 made PATs in as many attempts.
