Position (scholarship count)
QB (4)
Departing: Jalen Milroe (NFL draft), Dylan Lonergan (Boston College)
Incoming: Keelon Russell (signee)
Ty Simpson, R-Jr.
Austin Mack, R-So.
Keelon Russell, Fr.
Outlook: Let the quarterback battle begin — at least for now. With Jalen Milroe officially out of the picture, Alabama will spend the offseason looking to find his successor behind center. That search might not last too long. The current expectation from those inside the program is that rising redshirt junior Ty Simpson will win the starting role during spring camp.
Many thought Simpson would transfer last offseason after he lost the starting job to Milroe. However, the Martin, Tennessee native elected to follow in the footsteps of Mac Jones and wait for his turn with the Tide. While Simpson only attempted 25 passes through six appearances this past season, he received valuable reps in practice and has been said to have advanced over the past year. That experience should give him the edge over rising redshirt sophomore Austin Mack, who shared third-string reps with Dylan Lonergan while also working on the scout team last fall.
Keelon Russell, the No. 3 overall player in this year’s class is an intriguing dark-horse option. However, it would be asking a lot of a true freshman to come in and take the reins of what figures to be a pass-happy offense competing in college football’s toughest conference.
Ideally, Alabama would have four quarterbacks on its roster. That being said, it’s going to be hard to convince a quality quarterback to join a unit where he’ll likely slot in as the No. 4 option. If the Tide does make a spring addition, expect it to be a player who is content with just going along for the ride.
RB (6)
Departing: Justice Haynes (Michigan)
Incoming: Akylin Dear (signee), Dre'lyn Washington (Louisiana)
Jam Miller, Sr.
Richard Young, R-So.
Dre'lyn Washington, R-Sr.
Daniel Hill, R-Fr.
Akylin Dear, Fr.
Kevin Riley, R-Fr.
Outlook: Justice Haynes’ transfer from the program stings a lot more on paper than it does in reality. The former top-rated back in the 2023 class showed flashes of his potential during his two seasons in Tuscaloosa. However, complications behind the scenes made his departure perhaps better for both sides.
Alabama still has plenty of depth in the backfield and returns a potential team captain in Jam Miller to lead the way. The rising senior should get more touches this fall now that Milroe isn’t dipping into the Tide’s allotted caries.
While Miller’s role in the offense will increase, he’s still not expected to be a true bell-cow back. The Tide will also look to get Richard Young the ball. It also added to its depth by bringing in Louisiana transfer Dre’Lyn Washington.
As for younger names, Daniel Hill could serve as a nice short-yardage option given his 6-foot-1, 241-pound frame. The Tide also added Rivals100 freshman Akylin Dear, who has the athleticism to be a home-run threat.
TE-Y (2)
Departing: C.J. Dippre (out of eligibility), Ty Lockwood (transfer)
Incoming: Kaleb Edwards (signee), Peter Knudson (Weber State walk-on)
Danny Lewis Jr., R-Jr.
Kaleb Edwards, Fr.
Peter Knudson, Sr.
TE-H (3)
Departing: Robbie Ouzts (out of eligibility)
Incoming: Marshall Pritchett, Fr. (signee)
Josh Cuevas, R-Jr.
Jay Lindsey, R-Fr.
Marshall Pritchett, Fr.
Outlook: Tight end is a slight area of weakness at the moment, but things would have been a lot worse if Alabama hadn’t convinced Danny Lewis Jr. to withdraw his name from the transfer portal. The 6-foot-5, 257-pound rising redshirt junior gives the Tide an experienced blocker at the position. That should come in handy, as Alabama is losing a pair of blue-collar tight ends in C.J. Dippre and Robbie Ouzts.
The Tide also returns former Washington transfer Josh Cuevas. The 6-foot-3, 251-pound rising redshirt junior is best utilized out of the H-back role and figures to be the biggest receiving threat in the unit.
Alabama’s lack of experienced depth could create playing time for incoming freshmen Kaleb Edwards and Marshall Pritchett. That being said, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Tide add another veteran tight end in the spring.
LT (3)
Departing: Elijah Pritchett (transfer)
Incoming: Jackson Lloyd (signee), Micah DeBose (signee)
Kadyn Proctor, Jr.
Jackson Lloyd, Fr.
Micah Dubose, Fr.
LG (4)
Departing: Tyler Booker (NFL draft)
Incoming: Michael Carroll, Fr. (signee), Kam Dewberry (Texas A&M)
Michael Carroll, Fr. OR Kam Dewberry, Sr.
Olaus Alinen, R-So.
William Sanders, R-Fr.

Geno VanDeMark, R-Sr.

Departing: None
Incoming: None
Jaeden Roberts, Sr.
Roq Montgomery, R-So.
Casey Poe, R-Fr.
RT (3)
Departing: Miles McVay (transfer)
Incoming: Mal Waldrep (signee) Arkel Anugwom (Ball State)
Wilkin Formby, R-So.
Arkel Anugwom, R-So
Mal Waldrep, Fr.
Outlook: With Tyler Booker leaving for the NFL and Elijah Pritchett headed to the transfer portal, Alabama will need to replace two starters from last season's offensive line.
Kadyn Proctor is set to undergo surgery and will be limited in the spring, but he’s expected to be back to full strength in time to retain his blindside blocking duties this fall. Meanwhile, Parker Brailsford will continue to man the center position with Jaeden Robert to his right.
According to sources, Alabama had to fend off a strong push from LSU to keep Wilkin Formby this offseason. After struggling early this past season, the rising redshirt sophomore is said to have made strides and is expected to step into the first-team right tackle role.
If things go to plan and Formby replaces Pritchett on the right side, the two likeliest candidates to fill Booker's spot at left guard appear to be five-star freshman Michael Carroll and Texas A&M transfer Kam Dewberry. Geno VanDeMark will also continue to be a depth piece at all three interior positions.
Alabama added some depth at the tackle position by bringing in Ball State transfer Arkel Anugwom from the portal. According to sources, the Tide is far from done and will look to make another significant addition at the tackle position.
WR X (3)
Departing: Kendrick Law (Kentucky) Jarin Hamilton, R-So. (transfer)
Incoming: Isaiah Horton (Miami)
Ryan Williams, So. OR Isaiah Horton, R-Jr.
Jalen Hale, R-So.
WR Z (2)
Departing: Caleb Odom (Ole Miss), Emmanuel Henderson (Kansas), Amari Jefferson, R-Fr. (transfer)
Incoming: Derek Meadows (signee)
Germie Bernard, Sr.
Derek Meadows, Fr.
WR H (5)
Departing: Kobe Prentice (Baylor)
Incoming: Lotzeir Brooks (signee)
Cole Adams, R-So.
Jaylen Mbakwe, So.
Rico Scott, R-Fr.
Aeryn Hampton, R-Fr.
Lotzeir Brooks, Fr.
Outlook: Alabama lost five wideouts to the transfer portal but is still extremely confident with its upcoming receiving corps.
Along with bringing back Ryan Williams and Germie Bernard, the Tide added another talented playmaker in Isaiah Horton. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound Miami transfer gives Kalen DeBoer the experienced, big-bodied receiver he was lacking this past season. Horton will work in the X-receiver role where he can be utilized in a similar fashion to former Washington standout Rome Odunze (6-foot-3, 215 pounds).
The depth chart listed above only uses three receivers, but there will be plenty of time where Alabama lines up with four wideouts on the field. During those instances, Bernard, Horton and Williams will likely be joined by Cole Adams, who should provide a nice possession option out of the slot.
Alabama will also look to get Jaylen Mbakwe the ball in open space, as the former five-star cornerback appears set to switch to the offensive side of the ball. Meanwhile, Jalen Hale is a name that shouldn’t be forgotten. The rising redshirt sophomore would have competed for a starting role last year had he not suffered a season-ending injury in the spring.
Incoming: Kevonte Henry, Jr. (signee), Kelby Collins (Florida)
LT Overton, Sr. OR Jah-Marien Lathem, Gr.
Kelby Collins, Jr.
Jordan Renaud, R-So.
Kevonte Henry, Jr.
Keon Keeley, R-So.
Jeremiah Beamon, R-So.
Outlook: Alabama received a major boost, as LT Overton announced he was returning for his senior season. While the Tide is still waiting to hear word from Jah-Marien Latham, it appears he too is expected to come back for his final year of eligibility.
Due to Alabama’s depth at the Bandit position, it’s likely players will serve in multiple roles. Latham saw time at the Wolf position late this season and could continue to help out in that role next year. Kelby Collins figures to move back to the edge where he earned Freshman All-SEC honors in 2023. However, the Florida transfer has the versatility to move inside if needed.
Junior college transfer Kevonte Henry offers plenty of promise. The Tide also returns three rising redshirt sophomores in Keon Keeley, Jordan Renaud and Jeremiah Beamon. During bowl prep, defensive coordinator Kane Wommack said he is as excited as he’s ever been about Keeley’s development. The former five-star recruit is another player who could likely serve at multiple spots.
Incoming: None
Tim Keenan III, R-Sr.
Edric Hill, R-So
Isaia Faga, R-Fr.
Incoming: London Simmons
James Smith, Jr.
Steve Mboumoua, So.
London Simmons, Fr.
Outlook: Quality defensive tackles are hard to come by in the portal, but Alabama will need to find one if it wants to improve its depth up front. Tim Keenan III’s decision to return was a huge boost, while James Smith showed off his ability to apply pressure up the middle last year. Still, the Tide is lacking a proven reserve if either of those two go down to injury.
The addition of Steve Mboumoua from Southwest Mississippi Community College will help replenish some of Alabama’s depth. Meanwhile, three-star talent London Simmons was the lone freshman brought in as part of the 2025 class. After missing on a few defensive line targets, DeBoer will need to have better luck in the portal this spring.
Jayshawn Ross (transfer)
Incoming: Justin Hill (signee)
Qua Russaw, R-So. or Jah-Marien Latham, RS
Yhonzae Pierre, R-So.
Justin Hill, Fr.
Noah Carter, R-Fr.
Outlook: As is the case with the Bandit role, versatility will be the name of the game when it comes to the Wolf position. Qua Russaw should be the primary option, but Latham has the athleticism to provide relief. Don’t be surprised if Alabama experiments with using inside linebacker Justin Jefferson at the Wolf role in certain packages in order to allow him to share the field with Deontae Lawson and Colorado transfer Nikhai Hill-Green.
Russaw has put his athleticism on display several times while breaking into Alabama’s starting defense this year. However, the up-and-coming edge rusher had just one sack and 2.5 tackles for a loss over 13 games. Alabama will expect those numbers to increase in his second season on the field next year.
Latham (6-foot-3, 278 pounds) will be especially useful when Alabama goes up against more run-heavy offenses. Conversely, Jefferson (6-foot-1, 228 pounds) would provide a quicker option who is better in coverage.
Alabama is still waiting on former five-star recruit Yhonzae Pierre to live up to his talent. The Tide also made a nice addition by signing four-star outside linebacker Justin Hill.
Incoming: Darnell Johnson (signee), Luke Metz (signee)
Deontae Lawson, R-Sr.
Cayden Jones, So.
Luke Metz, Fr.
Darnell Johnson, Fr.
Justin Okoronkwo (transfer)
Incoming: Nikhai Hill-Green (Colorado)
Nikhai Hill-Green, Gr.
Justin Jefferson, Gr.
Abdul Sanders, Fr.
Q.B. Reese, R-Fr.
Outlook: What once looked like Alabama’s biggest weakness might now be a strength. Despite losing Jihaad Campbell to the NFL, the Tide will once again have plenty of experience in the middle of its defense. Lawson elected to forgo the draft, while Jefferson will also return after the NCAA passed a waiver allowing former junior college players an extra year of eligibility. Meanwhile, Hill-Green gives Alabama another option with starting experience.
Alabama’s retained experience comes at a cost, as it led to Jeremiah Alexander, Sterling Dixon and Justin Okoronkwo entering the transfer portal. Of that trio, Okoronkwo’s departure stings the most. The staff is high on the German and is hoping to get him to reconsider his decision to leave. Alabama’s success in that endeavor will likely determine whether or not it looks to add another linebacker from the portal.
Incoming: Chuck McDonald (signee)
Domani Jackson, Sr.
Cameron Calhoun, So.
Chuck McDonald, Fr.
Incoming: Dijon Lee (signee)
Zabien Brown, So.
Dijon Lee, Fr.
Outlook: With Domani Jackson officially back in the fold, he and Zabien Brown figure to retain their first-team roles at the two cornerback positions. Meanwhile, Utah transfer Cameron Calhoun adds extra experience and flexibility on the perimeter.
It's looking more like Jaylen Mbakwe will switch over to the offensive side of the ball. However, Alabama still has plenty of depth at the cornerback position. The Tide returns DaShawn Jones, who I currently have taking over the starting Husky role in replacement of DeVonta Smith. Alabama also signed two Rivals100 cornerbacks in Dijon Lee Jr. and Chuck McDonald III.
Incoming: Chuck McDonald (signee)
DaShawn Jones, R-Sr.
Red Morgan, So.
Dre Kirkpatrick Jr., So.
Incoming: None
Bray Hubbard, Jr.
Zavier Mincey, So.
Incoming: Ivan Taylor (signee)
Keon Sabb, Sr.
Kameron Howard, Jr.
Ivan Taylor, Fr.
Outlook: At one point last fall, Keon Sabb appeared set to enter the draft. A season-ending foot injury changed those plans, as the Michigan transfer will return for a final season.
Sabb’s injury allowed for Bray Hubbard’s ascension to the starting lineup. The rising junior ended up being one of the Tide’s best defenders, tying for the team lead with three interceptions to go with 57 tackles, a pair of pass breakups and a forced fumble. With DeVonta Smith's departure to the transfer portal, Alabama could elect to drop Hubbard down to the box in the Husky position.
The Tide could also move DaShawn Jones into the Husky role or use one of its younger safeties such as Red Morgan or Zavier Mincey in the slot. Meanwhile, four-star signee Ivan Taylor adds even more depth to the unit.
Incoming: Blake Doud (Colorado Mines walk-on), Alex Asparuhov (signee)
Blake Doud, R-Sr. OR Alex Asparuhov, Fr.
Outlook: Alabama now has two capable options to replace James Burnip in the punter role. Colorado Mines transfer Blake Doud earned Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Year honors this season, leading the NCAA Division II with 46.6 yards per punt. He had 13 punts of 50 or more yards this season and pinned his opponents inside the 20 on 19 occasions. He also had a career-long 80-yard punt that was downed at the 1 against West Texas A&M.
Freshman signee Alex Asparuhov is also talented and joins Alabama as the third-rated punter in this year’s class, according to Kohl’s Kicking.
Incoming: Peter Notaro (freshman walk-on)
Conor Talty, R-So.
Peter Notaro, Fr.
Outlook: Conor Talty figures to take over Alabama’s placekicking duties following Graham Nicholson’s departure. Talty didn’t attempt a field goal last season but was 3 of 3 on extra-point tries. His main role was handling kickoffs where he averaged 63.46 yards and had 41 touchbacks on 76 kicks.
Freshman walk-on Peter Notaro joins Alabama as the No. 4 rated kicker in this year’s class, according to Kohl’s Kicking.
Incoming: David Bird (California, walk-on)
David Bird, Jr.
Jay Williams, R-Fr.
Outlook: Alabama appears to have found its replacement for departing long snapper Kneeland Hibbett, adding California transfer David Bird as a preferred walk-on. Bird did not record an errant snap during his two seasons with the Golden Bears. His top competition for the long snapper role at Alabama is fellow walk-on Jay Williams.

CB (3)
Departing: Jahlil Hurley (Kansas))Incoming: Chuck McDonald (signee)
Domani Jackson, Sr.
Cameron Calhoun, So.
Chuck McDonald, Fr.
CB (2)
Departing: NoneIncoming: Dijon Lee (signee)
Husky (3)
Departing: DeVonta Smith (Notre Dame)Incoming: Chuck McDonald (signee)
DaShawn Jones, R-Sr.
Red Morgan, So.
Dre Kirkpatrick Jr., So.
Rover (2)
Departing: Malachi Moore (out of eligibility)Incoming: None
Bray Hubbard, Jr.
Zavier Mincey, So.
FS (3)
Departing: NoneIncoming: Ivan Taylor (signee)

Departing: James Burnip (out of eligibility)Incoming: Blake Doud (Colorado Mines walk-on), Alex Asparuhov (signee)

Departing: Graham Nicholson (out of eligibility)Incoming: Peter Notaro (freshman walk-on)
Conor Talty, R-So.

Departing: Kneeland Hibbett (out of eligibility)Incoming: David Bird (California, walk-on)
David Bird, Jr.
