Feels great being on this side of a butt whooping of Kentucky in the SEC Tour for once. I anticipated Alabama to beat Kentucky by double digits, but not to this extent. This was the 2nd largest postseason ever for Kentucky, the largest since 1950. It is also the first time Alabama has beaten Kentucky three straight times, and more impressively, three times in one season.
This Alabama team is so incredibly tough to beat, because they can beat you in a multitude of ways. They scored 45 points on 2/12 shooting from 3 in the first half. They scored 54 points on 9/17 shooting from 3 in the 2nd half. When guys like Labaron Philon and Mark Sears each get going, it’s goodnight for the opponent.
Now, the defense is starting to round into form. They’re now #26 nationally in defensive efficiency, which has been steady rising the last 3 weeks. A lot of it is because the guards are buying into fighting through screens forcing the guards to go into the drop coverage. They’re also more active in forcing turnovers. If they get to where they force liveball turnovers, they’ll run and get so many fast break points it’ll make it hard for any team to keep up.
Next up, the rematch against Florida.
