this is something coach saban fully believes in and I totally agree--you get very few cyrus k's or cam robinson's coming thru your system. if they are not a threat to leave early, it is a wasted year to play them. some of them might be good enough to play, but they will be much more valueable as 5th year seniors than they will be playing a little as freshmen
look at the 5th year seniors that have been starters for us in the past few years.barrett jones meant a lot more to our team as a 5th year senior than he would have in a little mop up duty as a true fresman.
Anthony stein, Austin shepard, arie k, just to name a recent few. if ryan Kelly had played as a freshman he would be gone now. Bradley Bozeman and big shank will both have an extra year before we lose them
many time these guys can start their 3rd year on campus as sophomores and still have 3 years as starters instead of 2.
