Here's the rundown with Avery Johnson's roundtable with the print media. Lots of interesting stuff from here:

Johnson is meeting with the current players tonight.

Said he is entering negotiations with a top assistant tonight.

Lot of calls 'little overwhelmed' with people reaching out about being on staff.

Noon tomorrow on a plane with assistant coach Pettway, recruiting in-state guys first, then out out-of-state

Plan (no details) on student section and helping bolster the atmosphere. Mentioned working for Mark Cuban as a help in that regard. "When you hit the parking lot, there's got to be something different."

"We have to get them better. .. I'm not blowing up the roster." For the most part, that's one of the things I told the players, the roster is going to stay intact.

On Pettway back "Asked 10 people about him, all 10 had great things to say."

On one-and-done rule. "I think it's great." Said Alabama wants to get a couple of one and dones. "We need to recruit kids that have that capability."

"We want to play a little bit faster, but efficient, have to have good decision makers. I was never a high turnover guy when i played, and turnovers irritate the blank out of me."

Popularity of football give you any pause. "Actually that was one of the reasons I wanted to come. Met Coach Saban for about 30 minutes before the press conference. Friends with Sean Payton. Avery said he's a huge football fan. Saban said he would allow Johnson to sit in on meetings, press conferences, etc. Avery Johnson, an unpaid consultant with the New Orleans Saints since 2006, gave pre-game speech before Saints beat Colts in Superbowl.

Saban told Johnson "you have to look at the video. Sometimes those top five guys can't play on the collegiate level."

Anthony Grant texted Avery Johnson congratulating him on the new job.

We don't want to pound the ball every possession for 34 seconds. If you are a guy that's not a blue-chipper, maybe you're a green chip, maybe you can develop. There's still room for you. We're still a team.

Scheduling philosophy: "I have to get somebody in place that's really going to help us in that area. I'm not a know-it-all guy, but I would like to play a strong non-conference schedule."

Type of player: I would like to have kids who are tough minded, embrace physicality, coachable, don't make excuses or play the blame game, kids that are unselfish. Kids that want to represent the school the right way in our community.

Kept hitting on: "I do NOT like gray area."

Recruiting: Wants to embrace HS coaches more than ever. Reaching out to JUCO's as well. 5th year grad students "on the table."
In terms of our philosophy, we have to look under every rock."

Johnson said he likes the challenge of a place without titles, one-and-done players, etc. "I like the challenge."

"I know Chuck Person, the rifleman, I played with him with the Spurs. I know he likes to shoot."
