One year they averaged over 100 points per game! In 1956 they played UK in Montgomery’s Garrett Coliseum which was the largest venue in Alabama. Coach Dee told our team we had to set the tone early, show them we weren’t gonna take any crap from Rupp’s team. He told our guys the refs could only call 1 foul at a time so on the opening tip he wanted all 5 of our guys to foul someone. At the tip, all 5 UK players hit the deck and no fouls were called!
No team had ever scored 100 pts against UK...ever. With 2 minutes to go it was obvious we were going to do it so Rupp started stalling the ball to prevent us from hitting 100. Didn’t work and we beat them 101-77! The best team in Bama history...so far.
