well we do have a new safety coach and from every thing I have heard and read he is a good one.
we actually only have one safety(hootie jones)that was recruited out of high school as a safety. we missed on some guys a couple of years and we got thin. the good news is several of these kids that have moved to safety are very good at it. we do not have a strong safety in that bunch however and I thought hootie would be ready, but he is not. we are not gonna have a barron, Vinnie, ha-ha, or landon type strong safety this year.
the good news is-- most of these spread offenses do not require us to have a big strong in the box type safety that can play the run and still cover tight-ends and backs out of the back field. the bad news is we have to play ark and L.S.U. and we will need one then.
I think geno smith will start at free safety and my best guess at the other one is eddie Jackson. do not rule out mo smith. Washington will play some in dime defense. for a true freshman Ronnie Harrison has really looked good, but I think he will be behind the ones named above.
I hope hootie will come a long and be ready to step up by the ark and L.S.U. games, because we will need him against them
anyway we shall see how this shakes out, but I think geno starts at one safety and eddie and mo will be close for the other.
