Have been hesitant to pose this question because it's real easy to complain complain complain and always see the bad.
Regardless of whether you like Oats' system or not has anybody else noticed how poorly this team actually executes the high screen at times. Maybe I'm just seeing the bad but how many times does the opposing guard slip the screen as Q and Bediako both try to get to the rim, only to have to back back out and reset again? Execution of the screen falls on both players but it's primarily the ball handler's responsibility. Guards seem way too indecisive with getting the offense going and do a horrific job of cutting with any sense of urgency when the ball isn't in their hands. You especially see it manifest itself with inbounds plays as of late. But again maybe I'm just nitpicking.

yes, its both players fault the ball handler dont wait for the screen and the screener dont screen long enough.

It doesn’t matter a whole lot. Help is going to be standing there waiting on the guy rolling or the ball handler bc they aren’t worried about the shooters standing dead still on the outside.

Interesting take. Care to elaborate?

No need to apologize, you're right. Two other issues for me are lack of movement by those without the ball and too much dribbling by the player with the ball.

Our guys without the ball never move. I’m guessing it’s bc Oats wants everybody to know exactly where the shooters are standing. But either way, they don’t move. So the guy guarding the guy in the corner never has to wonder where his guy is. He can sink and he can tag the guy rolling or he can even help on the ball if need be to prevent a layup and he still has some chance to recover enough bc 1. We aren’t knocking down a high % from 3, so it’s not a huge deal to get back out and 2. He always knows where his guy is bc he’s not going to move.
Our biggest issue is not having shooters but since we don’t I don’t understand why we don’t have more movement off of the ball. With more motion, JQ wouldn’t always have 5 sets of eyes on him on defense when he drives and help wouldn’t be so easy. It doesn’t take the Princeton offense like some say. Just off the ball screens and cuts to get the help from being able to stand dead still and from knowing exactly where they have to scramble to if need be.

Would really like to see us implement some new offensive sets like this soon, because I just don't see us making a deep run in the tournament without it. I've long given up on the hope that we will start to shoot the 3 ball better. At this point we are who we are, and that is a terrible 3 point shooting team.

Yes, I guess your offensive schemes are far better than CNO's, and of course you are correct in your hunch that they won't make it deep, because after all Coach Nate Oates just doesn't have it. What ? No big thing he was only the SEC coach of the year last year, won the SEC championship in league play & the SEC tournament, coached the player of the year in the SEC (now a starter in the NBA) and was also the SEC defensive player of the year while at BAMA.
But you do know better because this years team is only 17-9 and face Kentucky tomorrow. What? Was it BAMA that has had the most difficult schedule in all of tier 1 college basketball by a huge margin? More quality wins than any NCAA team to date? What about Recruiting for next year? Oh yeah...only number 3 in the nation behind who? Oh, Duke & Arkansas? New stadium on the way? Oh my. Our guys never move....

Nuff said.

Lighten up Francis! The OP is just making an observation (which we are allowed to do) about a potential flaw with the offense. Oats doesn't need to lawyer-up and the death penalty is not on the table.
RTR!!!!!
