Alabama
I have to start with the Tide here. How great is it it that we now playmakers again on the defensive side of the ball? Guys like Dallas Turner, Chris Braswell, Kool-aid McKinstry, Justin Eboigbe, Tim Keenan, Deontae Lawson and even a freshman in Caleb Downs. All but one of these guys were on the roster last year. So how did the light just magically come on for these guys (and others) all at the same time? Simple. The exit of Pete Golding and the installation of a new, tougher and more aggressive defensive philosophy. This defense is improving each week and opposing QBs are now starting to find it harder to hide. I say let them eat!!!

I keep reading that a loss to Alabama does not mean Jimbo Fisher should be on the hot seat. And I agree. However, the most recent loss to Bama should not be the focus but rather the 4-5 losses per year A&M has averaged since Jimbo took over in College Station. In fact, Jimbo is a paltry 25-19 overall in the SEC. There are way too many resources and way too muchbought talent at A&M for the 'powers that be' to settle for mediocrity. As much as I hate Tennessee (like the rest of you) I would kind of like to see the Vols hand the Aggies another "L" and enter Bryant Denny as a 5-1 team for the big match-up on October 21st.

I've complained a lot this year about the stupidity that has infiltrated college football over the last few years to include my beloved Tide. But most of this complaining has been aimed at players. However, it now seems the coaches are no longer immune. I thought I had seen it all when Marcus "I'm in over my head" Freeman refused to call a timeout in the waning seconds against Ohio State on the goal line when the Irish had only 10 players on the field. And, the 11th player missing was the DE who would have been over the gap where the Buckeyes ran it for the game winning score. But then along comes Mario Cristobal who allowed his team to continue to run plays instead of simply taking the knee for the win over a 19-point underdog in Georgia Tech. We all know what happened next. The "U" ain't back. If you haven't had a chance to watch Cristobal's 6-minute post game press conference then you should. It's pure gold.

The Trojans have so much skilled talent on the offensive side of the ball but once again have a paper doll defense on the other side.
Ole Miss
There was a time when I could not stand Lane Kiffin, even when he was the OC at Bama. But I've since come around and learned to respect him as a head coach. He's done a hell of a job at Ole Miss and seems to handle himself very well in both wins and losses. I now find myself quietly pulling for the Rebs each weekend, especially when they play LSU or the Barn.
