For a volleyball tournament. I’ve spent very little time in Montgomery in the past. That town is pretty rough looking. pretty sad for our state capital.

Montgomery has turned into a cesspool of a city. South Boulevard and the southern by pass and other parts resemble a third world country. Typical white flight/ everyone has moved to Prattville, Wetumpka and east of Montgomery. State government should ashamed.
It is a Barn and Alabama State Town. The guy who mentioned white flight failed to mention what Blacks that can get out of there is also getting out to Prattville, Wetumpka and Millbrook areas.
Still using the school but are in the process of changing the names of Jeff Davis, Lee and merging Lanier with Carver. Yes, Montgomery is a mess. Once the new Mayor Steven Reed took office crime and in specific gun violence in the African American community has substantially increased. The reality is Alabama State could be a fantastic athletic HBCU…the facilities are great and the ASU recruiting area is as good or better than most all other HBCU’s. I used to attend ASU basketball games when they were an NAIA school. James Oliver the ASU Head Basketball Coach was a good friend of mine. Games at CJ Dunn Arena were a must see…best college basketball atmosphere I’ve ever experienced. There was not one time that I ever felt uncomfortable on the ASU campus…times have changed.
That school looked horrible. Huntsville has torn down schools that looked better. I had no idea.
We went to the Walmart on Ann st. Worst Walmart I ever been too. No live cashiers. Only self check out lined 10 deep on both sides. Electronics line waiting on help with everything locked up. I couldn’t wait to to get out of there.
The Wal Mart on Ann Street is an awful mess…very likely to be panhandled or really messed with in that parking lot. A group of women were fighting in the parking lot of a Wal Mart located on Chantilly Pkwy. in East Montgomery (supposedly a nice area) a few weeks ago and one of the women pulled out a pistol and shot another woman in the middle of the day. Montgomery is not safe…
Drove through Gump town for 20 years goin to T-town from Ozark and back on Saturdays. And hated stopping late at night to top off gas to make that final stretch! My uncle always pointed out the abandoned mall and strip club buildings that use to be nice restaurants and stores 40 years ago 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤣😂
I spent a ton of time in Montgomery visiting my grandparents. In my younger days it was a shopping and dining destination. But it seems after Emory Folmer stepped down as mayor the town started to go down hill, he had tremendous support for law enforcement and kept crime under control. Also had four cousins who grew up there that have moved away due to rising crime.
