Just watched the piece on ESPN where Heather Dienich(?) said Alabama was 'not even a top 10 team'. She based her opinion solely on our loss to Ole Miss and did not even mention that we have beaten two top 10 teams on the road by wide margins. In her mind being undefeated is the only thing that matters, regardless of strength of schedule. Good thing she is not on the selection committee. No one has played a schedule as strong as ours to date. The problem with Heather, as well as the other stupid pundits in the media, is that they base their rankings solely on a team's won-loss record. So according to them, Alabama could lose to Ole Miss, then beat five top 10 teams on the road in blowouts, but would still lose out to an undefeated Ohio St. team because they would deem Ohio State's performance against a schedule full of cupcakes more impressive than ours solely because we lost one game and those other teams are unbeaten. When judging strength of schedule, you have to consider the opponents ranking at the time the game was played. Yes, I know that Georgia and Texas A&M have lost additional games since losing to Bama, but did they consider that we might also have had something to do with that? Consider Georgia was ranked number six when we played them, and Bulldog fans had been waiting for that game since the 2012 SECCG loss. Now throw in what happened in the 2008 'blackout' game and that game day atmosphere was as difficult as playing at L.S.U. Regarding Texas A&M, that game was played before an all time record crowd at College Station of 105,000 plus fans. But it's like now that both GA and TA&M lost the media wants to dismiss those games as wins against mediocre opponents. You can't win with these people. Lose the game and you're out. Win the game and the team mustn't have been that good to start with and was overrated. Meanwhile, Ohio St., TCU, and Baylor have played nobody. I mean nobody. But they get all the love from the media. Clemson is the only team ranked in the top five that you could say has played at least one or two quality opponents. I realize all of this will sort itself out by the end of the year as many of the top five teams have back loaded schedules and play each other, but at this point rankings seem to be based solely on won/loss records. Ohio St. and TCU would have at least two losses if they played in the S.E.C., and Baylor would probably have one. I know I'm rambling but it's so frustrating that these media people don't appreciate how tough it is playing an S.E.C. schedule. They gave us zero credit for beating Tennessee, but here's a team that could have easily had one loss or been undefeated coming into our game. Anyway, thankfully there is a committee that will consider many factors besides being unbeaten. I believe we will be ranked as high as #4 when the first committee poll comes out next week.
