Law enforcement authorities will reconsider the criminal charges against a former University of Alabama football player accused of domestic violence on Saturday.
The 24-year-old woman who accused Jonathan Taylor of domestic violence came forward Monday and recanted her story that he caused injuries to her neck and damaged property in her apartment, Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit assistant commander Lt. Kip Hart said.
Investigators interviewed her further on Tuesday, he said, before charging her with making false statements to law enforcement.
"Based on her statements that she had fabricated the stories, investigators charged the female with false reporting to law enforcement," he wrote in an email sent Wednesday morning.
Her name has not been released. She has posted bond and is no longer in police custody.
Taylor, 21, is a defensive tackle who enrolled in UA in January after signing as part of the football team's 2015 recruiting class.
His arrest Saturday has brought attention from national sports media, many who have criticized UA Coach Nick Saban for recruiting Taylor when he has a similar domestic violence charge still pending in Georgia.
Saban said at a press conference this week that Taylor had completed psychological and domestic violence counseling and psychological profiling.
