Look out Bama. Texas coming after Nate Oats
I’ve been saying for 2 years the big boys are coming. He’d be an upgrade at Duke and North Carolina. Can’t see us keeping him when they come calling.

Going to take a Ballsy AD to buck the system and hire outside of the family. IMO Bama should be worried about Texas, Mich St., Michigan, and Kentucky.

Might be way off here but I don't think we'll have to worry about any program that isn't a true blueblood or a northern power. That doesn't include Texas. They may have been a competitive program over the 20 years or so but they are otherwise a program that's historically been mediocre. Rick Barnes accounts for like half their tournament appearances.

The one and only concern here is Texas is getting (or just got) a fancy new arena. We should be able to match $$ with anyone if Oats is otherwise happy enough here but an arena ain't happening until at least 2025. Though maybe if interest is expressed from the shorthorns it might spur our admin to get moving here so we're making more than an idle promise of "we're working on it".

Now when Izzo retires at Mich St maybe worry as that is his old backyard. Then there's UK, KU (maybe), or the 'cuse in the loose category of northern power. I've wondered about Louisville as well. Their program is deep in the gutter for where they want to be and their arena is basically NBA quality.

Duke/UNC more than likely stick with folks that have been inside their program before.

If Coleman is consistently half empty like it was against ole miss oats might want to leave. Kinda sad that coleman can’t be rocking each and every game

Students hadn't returned to campus and it was a stormy night, plus a late game (8 p.m. start), which doesn't bode well for those who travel a great distance or have to rise early for work/school. If the house isn't packed this Saturday, then that is a problem for sure.

The circumstances were bad for travel. I was happy with the crowd as CNO should be. If I lived in Birmingham or further, I would not have been there. This Sat will be different

The OleMiss crowd might have been weak but that game had a lot going against it. Tornado weather, students not back yet, many grade schools were starting back the next morning, late tip off... excuses for sure but there were many reasons for that game to not be well attended. Now, if somehow the game Sat doesn't look like a hard sellout then there's something to grouch about.

Oats has stated many times that he likes Coleman and that Coleman has never hurt him in recruiting. l have an idea NIL money is much more important to him than a new arena.
Bingo. That's the name of the game. NIL is a fantastic gauge for a coach to use to see exactly how respected he is. You're crazy if you don't think coaches know other programs "budgets." Why stay at Bama with 1 million to hand out if Texas can spend 5X as much?

Tornado watches that night / weather was terrible

Coach Oats seems early on to be more bought in to Alabama than Coach Saban was. He is quick to acknowledge the tradition and the commitment to excellence that pumps through the blood of the university. He frequently acknowledges our administration, AD, staff, facilities, resources, and other coaches. I personally think he and his family love living in Tuscaloosa and aren’t dreaming of moving back north. He has the skill and ability to become the Bryant/Saban of Alabama basketball and see his name go down in the record books at the Capstone. And . . he’s been comfortably throwing out “Roll Tides” since the first day he got on campus!

I have always said, if nobody else is trying to go after your coach, be it football or BB, then why do you really want them. We have heard these rumors almost every year CNS has been here, and there is a reason why. We have not heard these rumors about our BB coach barely ever over the last 30 years, and there is a reason why. I want a lot of other high profile D1 schools to want the HC of my favorite team, because if they do, then they must be performing really well.

I believe that has changed. Oats has said Coleman is fine in the past. He has also called it a dump. I have heard him say it from his own mouth at REC meeting earlier this year. He said it was adequate for what he needs, but it sucks for the fans. He said the administration has promised him a new arena. We will see what happens, but a new arena needs to happen especially if Bama makes some noise in March.

I agree that NIL is more important, but it is on the administration for not doing something sooner. They have poured millions into that arena rather than building a new one. Nothing wrong with pouring more money in it, if they will redesign to actually be an arena that provides an advantage. Everyone will have to be ok with Oats leaving because he doesn’t want them to do that. He wants the new arena. If they redo Coleman, he will have to play in Birmingham. He said that would kill recruiting.

We can match anything they offer, plus he is building this program like he wants it.
We can’t match Duke and UNC. That’s like saying their football programs could match us and keep a head coach we wanted. They are blue bloods. They have history that few can match. Their places are made to play basketball games and the students are up front and going nuts. Recruits are coming to them. Oats has done a great job. But we can’t match what they offer.

You don't have to be at a blueblood to win it all in basketball. This ain't football.

I do agree we need to lock Coach Oats down for the foreseeable future. But while Oats can win here, the pressure to win it all at a blueblood would be through the roof.

Just like a football coach can work with less pressure to win at, say, Ole Miss, an Alabama coach after Saban, who can't get the playoffs more than not... and win titles... isn't going to last here.

It’s not about just winning it all one time. These guys want to be in the mix every year. We can go back and forth all we want. If Duke or UNC come calling, he’s going. He’s automatically in the mix every season at one of those places just bc of who they are.
